Glenties Notes on May 26th 2005

Michael Shovlin and Rosemary Dunnion were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Saturday 14th May 2005. Fr. Austin Lafferty, P.P. Ardara officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Michael is a son of the late Peter and Annie Shovlin, Kilraine, Glenties and Rosemary is a daughter of Willie and Sarah Haughey, Maghera, Ardara. Her son Jason gave the bride away and her daughter Donna was her bridesmaid. Michéal Shovlin, son of the groom was bestman. Sophie Dunnion, granddaughter of the bride was flowergirl and Leon Shovlin, grandson of the groom was pageboy. The bride’s mother and the groom’s aunt, Eileen Kennedy brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Nesbitt Arms Hotel Ardara and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Congratulations to Marita Mc Loone and Derek Ward who were married in Glenties on Saturday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Seonie O’ Donnell, Lettermacaward, who died in Harbour Lights Nursing Home, Bruckless on Thursday 19th May 2005. His remains were brought to St. Bridget’s Church, Lettermacaward on Friday and burial took place on Saturday after Requiem Mass. Master O’Donnell was Principal in St. Connell’s Boys School in Glenties for a number of years.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, family, relatives and friends of Charlie Ward, Buncrubog, Glenties who died at his home in the early hours of Sunday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Kathleen Cleary, The Rock, Glenties who died recently in Dublin and was buried in Trim.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Earley, Mulinard, Glenties and to all the relatives and friends on the death of John’s sister, Ann Macher, London, which took place on 22nd May 2005.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Ownie O’ Donnell, Aughla, Glenties and all the relatives and friends on the death of Ownie’s sister, Margaret Laughran, Dungannon (formerly The Big Glen, Glenties), which took place on Friday 20th May2005.

Congratulations to Maria (nee Gallagher) and Billy Mac Innes, Derries on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother for Ellie and Leah.

Glenties Bowling Club held their Annual Singles Tournament recently over four nights. The 16 who qualified for the Finals night were – J.Braiden, T. Cathcart, F. Maquire, A. Brown, R. Doonan, H. Gawley, Enniskillen, M. Boyd, C. Mabon, Dunkineely, A.Buchanan, Raphoe, J.J. Campbell, Omagh, T. Wilson, Sion Mills, T. Patton, Strabane, J.Quinn, Ballylennon, J. Hegarty, Pat Walsh and Christy Hegarty, Glenties. Brown, Doonan, Gawley, Patton, Quinn, John & Christy Hegarty and Pat Walsh got through to the quarter-finals with J. Quinn, J. Hegarty Pat Walsh and C. Hegarty going through to the semi-finals. Runner-up was Pat Walsh and Christy Hegarty was the winner of the Tournament.

The Golden Jubilee weekend on the Ard Patrick Estate starts on Friday 3rd June 2005 with open air Mass on the Green at Ard Patrick, at 8.30p.m. followed by refreshments. A ‘Sing Song’ will be held in Molloy’s Bar at 10.00p.m. Saturday 4th June is a ‘Fun Day’ at the Comprehensive Field with Open Sports for under 12s and novelty events for all ages, children and adults. There will be a Barbecue on the Green at 6.00p.m. and Presentations of Sports Prizes and Art & Poetry Prizes, followed by Music and ‘Sing Song’ on the Green. Sunday is another ‘Fun Day’ for all the family on the Green with Bouncy Castles, Disco and Music. A Presentation Dinner Dance will be held in the Highlands Hotel at 8.30p.m. with music by Mary B. and Paul.

Our annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place immediately after 11.00a.m. Mass next Sunday 29th May from the Church to the Grotto. Those who are usually involved in the carrying of the canopy and erecting the altar at the Grotto are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the Procession. The First Holy Communion children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

The committee of Glenties Community Bingo would like to thank everyone for their support. Bingo is held in the Community Centre every Tuesday night at 9.00p.m. Single book and sheet is €12. Double book and sheets are €20. Prize for line is €50. Prize for house is €100. Jackpot line pays €50. House – €400. Everyone welcome.
