Glenties Notes on June 2nd 2005

Congratulations to Sandra and Derek Byrne, Lucan, on the birth recently of their first child, a baby boy (Daniel). Derek is a son of Gerry and Breid Byrne, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Sandra is a sister of Mrs. Fiona Boyle, Main Street, Glenties.

Congratulations to Rosaleen and Mark Mc Devitt, The Rock, Glenties on the birth recently of their fifth child, a baby brother for Shane, Danielle, Natalie and Emily.

Derek Ward and Marita Mc Loone were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 21st May 2005. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Derek is a son of Liam and Eithne Ward, Mullantyboyle, Glenties and Marita is a daughter of Padraig and Eileen Mc Loone, Straboy, Glenties. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Cheryl Quinn and her friend Jackie Dean attended her. John Ward, brother of the groom was bestman and Shane Mc Loone; brother of the bride was groomsman. Shana Quinn and Caitlin Ward were flowergirls and Logan Quinn was pageboy. Readings were by Sharon Shelton, cousin of the bride and Fiona Glennister, cousin of the groom. Aisling Bonner, Michael Bonner, Bridget Whyte, Patsy O’Connor and Caroline Mc Dermott read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Mill Park Hotel, Donegal Town and the honeymoon was spent in Cyprus. Music and singing was by Deirdre Mooney.

Congratulations to Martina Campbell, Glen Road, Glenties and Michael O’ Connell, Dublin who were married in Ards Friary, Creeslough on Saturday last.

Congratulations to Paul Quinn and Áine Mc Monagle who received their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday 15th May 2005.

Ard Patrick Golden Jubilee weekend gets under way on Friday evening 3rd May with Mass on the Green at 8.30p.m. followed by refreshments. It will be fun and games, music and ‘sing songs’ sports and novelty events for all the family so come along and join in the fun. A DVD on Ard Patrick will be shown over the weekend.

The death took place at his home on Sunday 22nd May2005 of Charlie Ward, Buncrubog, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Charlie’s grandniece, Margaret Curton and his Godchild, Maeve O’ Donnell. Grandsons, Adam Langan and Ryan Ward and Godchildren, Vincent Reilly, Geraldine Orr, Kathleen Gallagher and Bernadette Homes read Prayers of the Faithful. His five daughters, Maeve, Miriam, Rose, Lucille and Corinna brought the Gifts to the Altar. Singing was by neighbour; Nora Gallagher accompanied by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place afterwards in the New Graveyard. Charlie is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughters, Maeve, Miriam, Rose, Lucille and Corinna, sons Pat and Liam, sisters, Madge Reilly, Buncrubog, Rose Homes, London, Christine Kay, Coventry, eleven grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brother Peter predeceased him in September of last year.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Hegarty, Meenalargan, Glenties and to all the relatives and friends on the death of John’s sister Mary Mohan, (formerly Meenawania, Glenties), which took place recently in Glasgow.Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of John Joe Mc Gettigan, Tullyhoniver, Glenties who died on Friday last.

Well done and welcome home to Brendan Mc Dyer, Main St. Glenties who completed his 800k walk in aid of Scoil Mhuire New Gym Building fund and arrived home on Friday evening after 5 weeks on the road.
