Glenties Notes on June 9th 2005

The 11.00a.m. Mass on Sunday 19th June will be celebrated as the ‘Children’s End of School Year Mass.’ The Theme of the Mass will be “Courage – Do Not Be Afraid”.

The death took place in Killybegs Hospital, on Friday 27th May 2005 of John Joe Mc Gettigan, Tullyhoniver, Glenties. His remains were brought home on Saturday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday morning. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by John Joe’s niece, Mary Mc Gettigan and nephew, John Carr. Grandnieces and grandnephews Cathy, Geraldine, Stephen, Donna, Amy and Alan Mc Gettigan, and nephew, Gerry Mc Cole, read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by deceased’s nephews, Josie, Pat, Michael and Brendan Mc Gettigan. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in Kilraine Graveyard. John Joe is survived by one sister, Hannah Carr, Inver, nieces, nephews, in the Mc Gettigan, Mc Cole and Carr families, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

On Friday 27th May 2005 Martina Campbell and Michael O’ Connell were married in the Friary at Ards, Creeslough. Fr. Fidelis (uncle of the groom) assisted by Fr. Joseph Briody, Creeslough officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Martina is a daughter of Frankie and Nora Campbell, Glen Road, Glenties and Michael is a son of Clare and the late Paddy O’ Connell, Dublin. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Elaine was her bridesmaid. The groom’s brother Eoin was bestman. Emer Campbell, niece of the bride and Tara O’Connell, niece of the groom were flowergirls. Readings were by the bride’s cousin, Laura Mc Gill, and her brother, Brian Campbell. Ann Mc Gill, Daniel Mc Gill, aunt and cousin of the bride, Eoin Ryan, friend, Sandra O’Connell, Paul O’ Connell, sister-in-law and brother of the groom read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in The Mill Restaurant, Dunfanaghy and the honeymoon is being spent in Malaysia.

Congratulations to Marcus Flannery, Straboy, Glenties and Annette Dunphy, Donegal Town, who were married in Pettigo on Friday 27th May 2005
