Glenties Notes on June 16th 2005

Congratulations to Helena and Tony Dooley, The Rock, Glenties on the arrival of two new grandchildren, Harry, a son for Deirdre and Joseph Keegan on 27th May ’05 and Daniel Jack, a son for Marin and Richie Quigley on 3rd June ’05.

Marcus Flannery and Annette Dunphy were married in Lettercram Church, Pettigo on Friday 27th May 2005. Fr. Mohan officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Marcus is a son of Margaret Flannery, Straboy, Glenties and Annette is a daughter of Annette Dunphy, Donegal Town. Her brother gave the bride away and her sister Edel Dunphy was her bridesmaid. Joseph Flannery, brother of the groom was bestman. Readings were by Jane Flannery, sister of the groom and Seamus Dunphy, brother of the bride. The reception was held in Woodhill House, Ardara and the honeymoon was spent in France.

At a special Pioneer Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir presented Pins and Certificates to the following members – Bernie Mc Loone, Main Street, Nora Hamill, Mullinamina and Beesie Rodgers, Derries received Gold Pins. Mary Pike (nee Boyce) England, (formerly Mullinamina), Nancy Mc Loone, Narin Road, Willie Mc Nelis, Narin Road, Glenties and Josephine Duffy, Lettermacaward, were also recipients but were unable to attend. Angela Greenwood, Mullinamina accepted on behalf of her sister Mary Pike and Caoimhe Griffin accepted on behalf of her grandmother, Nancy Mc Loone. Silver Pins were presented to Annie O’ Dwyer, Ard Mc Gill and Kathleen Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties.

The 11.00a.m. Mass next Sunday 19th June will be celebrated as the ‘Children’s End of School Year Mass.’ The Theme of the Mass will be “Courage – Do Not Be Afraid”.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Maurice Mc Devitt, Ballinamore, Fintown, who died in Letterkenny Hospital and was buried in Fintown last week.

The Raphoe Singles Competition was the last Bowling Tournament of the season. Among the winners were local men, Fr. Adrian Gavigan, Pat Walsh and Christy Hegarty. Pat Walsh was a semi-finalist and Christy Hegarty was the over all winner of the competition.

Denise Boyle and Rosa Flannery are running a Variety Concert in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Friday 17th June at 8.30p.m. It will be followed by an old time dance. All proceeds will go to the Zambian Orphanage Appeal. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Enrolment for the new school year in Edeninfagh School takes place on Friday 17th June from 2.00p.m.until 3.00p.m.
