Glenties Notes on October 16th 2003

Congratulations to Naomh Conaill Minor Team who won the county final on Sunday in Ballybofey.
There was a big crowd to greet them when they arrived back in town and they got a great reception. Well done lads. We are very proud of you.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Joe Mc Cole, Luton, England and his family on the death recently of his wife, Nuala. Sympathy also to all the relatives and friends. Joe is a son of the late Joe and Mary Mc Cole, Glen Road, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Martin Joyce, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death last week of his sister, Margaret Salmon, Galway and to all the relatives and friends.

The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Thursday 9th October 2003 of Bridie Molloy, Drimnacrosh, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast assisted by Fr. Adrian Gavigan celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Bridie’s grandchildren, Elaine and Mike O’ Malley. Laura O’ Malley, Shane and Gerard Molloy, grandchildren, Shauna and Patrick Gallagher, grandniece and grandnephew read Prayers of the Faithful. Ken and Maureen Keeney brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Cliona Heena. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Bridie is survived by three sons, Cathal, Dublin, Sean and Seamus, Drimnacrosh, one daughter, Evelyn O’ Malley, Letterkenny, one sister, Monica Kennedy, Narin Road, Glenties, three brothers, John Gallagher, Ardun, Glenties, James and Paddy, U.S.A., grandchildren, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband, Sonny predeceased her in 1996. Two sisters, Molly and Rosie also predeceased her.

Donegal G.A.P. (Glenties, Ardara, Portnoo) Tourism are holding a Halloween Carnival on the Bank Holiday weekend 24th to 26th October. It starts off with Halloween Story Telling by Scallywags, for National School Children in the Methodist Hall in Ardara on Friday 24th October from 6.00 to 9.00 p.m. There will also be Games and Face Painting. Admission is Free. On Saturday 25th there will be a Fireworks Extravaganza for all the family on Narin Beach at 9.00p.m. Again admission is Free. Then on Sunday 26th the Annual Halloween Fancy Dress Ball, the event you have all been waiting for, will take place in the Limelight, Glenties at 10.00p.m. for the over 18s and all ages upwards.
