Glenties Notes on October 18th 2001

Congratulations to Mary Molloy, Mullanmore, Glenties and Mike Gill, Carrick on Shannon who were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Saturday last.

Congratulations to Derek Ward, Mullantyboyle and Marita Mc Loone, Straboy who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to Sharon Foley, who was selected as ‘Athlete of the Year’. Sharon is a granddaughter of the late Dinny and Ellie Doherty, Ard Patrick, Glenties and a daughter of Mary and Alan Foley, Lifford.

On the weekend of 10th and 11th November 2001, an Enneagram Weekend will be held in Glenties. Being organised by the local Women’s Group, the weekend workshop is open to everyone. It is based on an ancient theory of personality types, providing opportunity for people to look at themselves and why they do as they do, think as they think, etc. Further information and application forms for the weekend can be had from the following sources: Helen at 51125, Anne at 51471 Clodagh at 51347 and Breidin at 51715. There are 30 places available and these will be filled on a first come, first served basis, applications closing by end of October. The cost of the workshop, which will be held in the Highlands Hotel, is £20.00.

The annual Witches Ball takes place this year again in the Limelight, Glenties on Sunday 28th October. Music is by the ‘Embassy Band’. Doors open at 10.30p.m. and admission is £5.00. There will be numerous prizes so put on your thinking caps now and be in with a chance of winning a prize on the night. Special effects face painting by Scallywags from 8.30p.m. in the Limelight.

The “Swanky Ball” held recently in the Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo was a great success. As a result a cheque for £7.500 will be presented to the “Friends of Letterkenny Hospital in the Lake House Hotel on Friday evening 19th October. £1,999.53 of this was gathered at the Glenties Harvest Fair.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Gallagher, Mullantyboyle, Glenties on the death recently in America of his nephew, Damien Gallagher.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bridie Doherty, Mill Road, Glenties on the death in Letterkenny Hospital on Tuesday 9th October 2001of her aunt Annie Craig, Cranny, Inver.
