Glenties Notes on October 18th 2002
On Saturday 5th October 2002 Carol Hamill and Gerald Porter were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Carol is a daughter of Jim and Nora Hamill, Mullinamina, Glenties and Gerald is a son of Joe and Kathleen Porter, Carndonagh. Her father gave the bride away and her friend, Joan Mc Namara and her cousin, Katie Greenwood were bridesmaids. Shaun Porter was bestman and Cathal Porter was groomsman, both brothers of the groom. Twins, Orlaith and Kieran Sharkey, niece and nephew of the bride were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Janette Hamill, sister of the bride and Catriona Noome, sister of the groom. Margaret Rose Porter and Enda Hamill, sister of the groom and brother of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John Francis O’ Donnell and Elizabeth Greenwood. The reception was held in the Silver Tassie, Letterkenny and the honeymoon was spent in Greece.
Congratulations to Nan (nee Keeney) and Charlie Harkin, Mill Road, Glenties, who celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last weekend. Nan and Charlie spent most of their married life in England but have returned to their native land in recent years.
Congratulations to Kathleen Quinn, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties, who recently received her JEB Teacher Trainer Diploma in IT Skills from Rossan College, Letterkenny.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Mamie Mc Geehan, Derries, Gracie Mc Dyer, Mullantyboyle, and Annie Mc Dyer, Derries, Glenties, on the death last Thursday in Glasgow, of their brother, John O’Donnell, formerly of Meenacairn, Lettermacaward.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Maria Rafferty, Upr. Maas, Glenties, on the death of her brother Liam Ryan, which took place last week and who was buried in Athlone on Wednesday.
