Glenties Notes on October 2nd 2003

Congratulations to Hugo Doherty, Station Road, Glenties and Sean Connaughton, The Rock, Glenties on their promotion to Station Officer and Sub Station Officer with the Glenties Fire Brigade.

Congratulations and best wishes to Helen Flannery, Ardun, Glenties and Andy Malone, Letterkenny who got engaged recently.

Congratulations and best wishes to Caroline Mc Loone, Straboy, Glenties and Kieran Gallagher, Narin who were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on Friday last.

Congratulations and best wishes to Francis Houston, Glenties and Susie Shovlin, Ballykilduff, who were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on Saturday last.

Congratulations to Austin Byrne, who recently qualified as a doctor. Austin is a son of Maeve and Paddy Byrne, Dublin and a grandson of Mary and the late Packie Phelan, Main Street, Glenties.

Congratulations to Barbara and Pat Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties, who were twenty-five years married on 29th September.

Turloch Dooley and Monica Quintero Martinez were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday 19th September. Turloch is a son of Tony and Lena Dooley, The Rock,Glenties and Monica is a daughter of Maria de Angeles Quintero and Nerio Quintero, Spain. Bruno Cuollo gave the bride away and her sister, Graciela and the groom’s sisters, Maria and Charlotte attended her. Anton Dooley, brother of the groom was bestman and his friends, Niall Coughlan and Bryan Russell were groomsmen. Christian Dooley was a pageboy. Readings were by a friend, Kevin O’ Rourke and Joseph Keegan, brother-in-law of the groom. Mary Mc Carthy, Deirdre Keegan, Richard Quigley, Manuela Mendoza, Michelle Coughlan and Tony Dooley read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in the Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon is being spent in Mauritius.

Requiem Mass for Louis Walsh, Ballybofey and formerly of Glenties, who died on Wednesday 17th September 2003 in Brindley Manor Nursing Home, Convoy was concelebrated on Friday 19th in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties by Fr. Patrick Prendergast, Fr. Michael Sweeney, Fr. Padraig Molloy and Fr. John Joe Duffy. Readings were by his son, Dick and nephew, Louis B. Walsh. His daughter, Una, grandchildren, Maeve and Cian O’Donnell and daughter-in-law Monica Walsh read Prayers of the Faithful. Music and singing was by the Laughlin sisters. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties. Louis is survived by his daughters, Máire and Una, sons, Dick and Louis, sisters, Sheila and Eilis, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His wife Rita, (nee Mc Namee) a native of Derries, Glenties predeceased him in 1998 and his brother, Brian and sisters, Una, Máire and Mairead also predeceased him.
