Glenties Notes on on September 1st 2005

Congratulations to Joe Mc Garvey, Duleek, Co. Meath, son of James and Sheila Mc Garvey, Mill Road, Glenties, who won the prestigious David Hislop Award 2005 from the British Engineering Institute for Research, completed for his doctorate. Joe is an engineer with Meath Co. Council and was recently appointed Area Engineer responsible for the Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne and Dunboyne areas of Co. Meath. He is married to Marie and has three children.

Congratulations to Patricia and Dermot Hegarty, Station Road, Glenties on the birth in Letterkenny Hospital on Thursday 25th August 2005 of their first child, a baby girl (Erica).

On Saturday 30th July 2005 Lisa Boyle and Richard Love were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Lisa is a daughter of Michael and Ann Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Richard is a son of Tommy and the late Betty Love Donegal Town. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir assisted by Rev. Fox, Donegal Town officiated. Her father gave the bride away and her bridesmaids were her friends, Laura Boyle and Deborah Joyce and Sharon Love, sister of the groom. Thomas Love, brother of the groom was bestman. Terence Love, cousin of the groom and Michael Boyle, brother of the bride were groomsmen. Michaela and Neil Francis Boyle, niece and nephew of the bride were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Ann Buchanan, sister of the bride and Elizabeth Love, sister of the groom. Maria Molloy, sister of the bride, Aoife Buchanan, niece of the bride, Caroline Eallay, cousin of the bride, Selena Love, cousin of the groom and Grainne Boyle, sister-in-law of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Music and singing was by Siobhan Mc Groarty and Chris Cassidy. The reception was held in The Blue Haven and the honeymoon was spent in Florida.

A Dance Workshop Weekend takes place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties from Friday 9th until Sunday 11th September. It starts with a Barn Dance on Friday night at 10.00p.m. Music is by Country Traditions. Admission is E7.00. Light refreshments will be served. On Saturday 10th there will be Sets / Céilí Workshops with Clement Gallagher and Connie Mc Kelvey from 10.30a.m. – 1.00p.m. and from 2.00p.m. – 5.00p.m. On Saturday night there is a Céilí / Sets Dance from 9.30p.m. – 12.30a.m.with music by Art Mc Nally & The Gallagher Sisters. Admission is E7.00 with light refreshments served. A 2–Hand Dance Workshop will take place on Sunday from 11.00a.m. – 1.00p.m. Workshop admission is E.5.00 per session. The Full Weekend ticket is E25.00. To round the weekend off there will be a Barn Dance on Sunday 11th from 4.00p.m. – 6.00p.m. Music is by Jimmy and Peter Campbell and admission is E5.00. Sincere sympathy is extended to Rosaleen Mc Elhinney, Station Road and James Gallagher, Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death recently of their aunt, Teresa Gallagher, Shanahan, Ardara and to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Tim Cranley and family, Mill Road, Glenties on the recent death of Tim’s mother, Philomena Cranley, Tipperary and to all the relatives and friends.

We welcome Fr. Paul Gallagher as our new Curate and hope he will be very happy among us and we wish Fr. Nigel contentment and happiness in Dungloe.
