Glenties Notes on September 8th 2005

Craft Fair
This year, at our Glenties Harvest Fair we invite you to visit our very first Craft Fair. There you will find out a little about our Donegal craftspeople, their products and what inspires them, and perhaps you too will be inspired to visit a craft demonstration or to take a closer look at quality handmade Donegal Crafts. It is being held in the Community Centre, Glenties on Saturday 10th Sunday 11th and Monday 12th September between 12 noon and 6.00p.m. each day. Admission is free.

Among the exhibitors will be:
Grainne Breslin, Glenties: Metal Designer.
Grainne’s high quality metal designs are a statement of her individuatlty and creativity. Her work ranges from figuratine to abstract, and each piece is an original.

Anna Caples, Fintown: Handbags by Anna.
Anna combines her flair for artistic design and love of nature into woven fabric handbags. Handmade to the highest standard. A festival of colour.

Donegal Hosiery, Glenties: Socks by Martin Breslin.
Martin specialises in design and manufacturing of high quality cotton and wool socks. This core business is producing socks for the tourist market but on this occasion he will feature his own brand “Mairtín” – socks of distinction.

Fisherman Out of Ireland, Kilcar.
Fisherman Out of Ireland offers an exclusive range of beautiful lambswool, wool cashmere jumpers for ladies and gents, for the home and export market. The range includes jumpers, hats, scarves and socks.

Tom O’Brien, Leggs, Co. Fermanagh: Basket Weaver.
Tom works with reeds and rods to produce distinctive baskets and creels. He lectures traditional crafts in Limavady College and his high quality workmanship is a statement of his individuality creativity and endless enthusiasm for this dying skill. Tom will demonstrate basket weaving during the craft fair.

Michael O’Donnell, Glenties: Renowned Photographer.
Michael will show an extensive range of photographs of local scenes, occasions and characters. These will be available for purchase during the fair.

Pauline Gallagher, Glenties:
Oriflame representative. Pauline is renowned far and wide for her extensive and exclusive range of health and beauty Oriflame products. Gift boxes are available for different occasions.

Rathlin Knitwear, Kilcar: Handloomed Textiles by Donal Sweeney.
Rathlin Knitwear uses only the finest local wool, cotton and linens to produce sweaters that are unique, stylish and hard-wearing. Rathlin Knitwear can be purchased at Magees. Donegal Town, Studio Donegal, Kilcar and the Folk Village, Glencolmcille.

Filligans, Glenties: Culinary delights by Philip and Sarah Moss.
Philip and Sarah’s entire range including jams, chutneys and dressings are made with the finest ingredients and attention to detail. A must, for the discerning palette.

Gabby Crafts, Doochary: Handcrafts by Gabby.
Gabby has an exciting range of hand-made crafts, each piece is individually hand created, one off and unique. Her pieces are inspired by simplicity and nature – a joy to behold.

Kieran Gallagher, The Mines, Glenties: Artist.
Kieran works easily between a number of mediums – each piece is unique and he brings together a blend of classical and contemporary styles.

Creeslough, Macramé: Macramé products by Peggy Mc Ginley, Susie Sheridan.
Peggy and Susie work from their workshop in Creeslough and never use patterns in any of the pieces they create. They design and create hand knotted lampshades to order, and can also make head-dresses, wall hangings and other commissioned pieces.

Brenda Mc Glynn, Ardara: Fine Ceramics by Brenda.
Brenda’s work showcases ceramics and fine art to produce a high quality individual body of work. Her emphasis is on pieces that are simple, functional and a little bit different.

Hannah Mc Guinness, Glenties: Jewellery / Goldsmithing.
Hannah’s jewellery pieces range from minimalist works in sculpted Perspex with gold or silver, to more colourful and intricate creations in woven wire. She also designs work to commission and visitors are welcome to her studio.

Joe Molloy, Dowros Bay: Handmade soaps.
Joe offers an exclusive range of beautiful handcrafted soaps in a range of fragrances from lavender to the citrus family. Gift packages are available in this range.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Teresa Breslin, The Rock and Kieran Ward, Mill Road, Glenties who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to Laurence Gallagher, Main St. Glenties and Amanda Mc Daid, Glengad, Carndonagh, who were married in Glengad on Saturday last.

Well done to our senior football team who are through to the final of the county championship. It is forty years since Glenties last reached the final so let’s hope they go the whole way this time.

Glenties Mother and Toddler Group meet every Thursday in the Day Centre, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent from 10.00a.m. until 12.30p.m. All are welcome.

The results of the Entente Florale will be announced on Friday 9th September in Gyor, Hungary and the results of the Tidy Towns Awards will be announced on Monday 12th in Dublin Castle.
