Glenties Notes 25th July 2013

The Late Fr. John Mc Loone:
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 17th July 2013 of Fr. John Mc Loone P.P. Frosses. His Remains were brought to the Parochial House, Frosses on Thursday evening and to the Church on Friday evening. Burial took place in the Church grounds after Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. A native of Glenties Fr. John was ordained in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny in 1967. He served as a Curate in Tory Island from July 1967 – September 1968, in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny from September 1968 – June 1982, in Clar from June 1982 – December 1988. He was Parish Priest in Frosses from January 1989. He is survived by two sisters, Sr. Anne Mc Loone, Ballybofey and Bried Boyle, Mullaghdubh, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended; sincere sympathy also to his loyal housekeeper. Irene Higgins. His sister Maura Mc Bride and brother Michael predeceased him.

Graveyard Masses:
Mass will be celebrated in Kilraine Graveyard this Thursday 25th July at 7.00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated in Edeninfagh Graveyard on Sunday 11th August at 3.00 p.m.

Open Day:
An Open Day will take place at Church of Ireland, Glenties on Tuesday 30th July from 11 a.m. onwards, with Local Arts & Crafts and More. Tea / Coffee & Refreshments Served. Everyone is most welcome to come along during the day.

Naomh Conaill 5K:
The Naomh Conaill 5k Run / Walk takes place on Friday 9th August at 7 p.m. starting from the Clubhouse. Come out and support your local Club by running / walking or take along the buggy. Small kids are welcome to take their bikes to cycle along with a walker. Registration is from 6 p. m. There is ample parking and full changing / shower facilities. Tea and refreshments will be served immediately after the run / walk. A bouncy castle will also be on site to keep the children busy. Entry fee is € 8 for Adults and € 3 for under 16’s.

Church Gate Collection:
The Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection, taken up recently in Edeninfagh, amounted to € 128.09. Many Thanks for your contributions.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo in the Glenties Community Centre every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every line € 50; every house €100; if not won Jackpot will be €7500 on 45 numbers or less. If not won on the night € 300 will be paid out; in house draws. Faith Healer Michael Curran will be in the Glenties Community Centre every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Snooker room is open from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. every day. Glenties Community Centre Amalgamated C. E. Scheme is recruiting new participants for their scheme which will commence on 26/09/2013. Any one interested should email glentiescommunitycentre@yahoo.ie or ring 087 9695053. Fas criteria apply.

Simon Community Church Gate Collection:
North West Simon Community Church Gate Collection will be taken up next weekend. North West Simon Community works to prevent homelessness throughout County Donegal.

Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection:
The Church Gate Collection taken up recently in aid of Donegal Hospice amounted to € 581.91. Many thanks for your contributions.

Water Safety Weeks at Narin / Portnoo:
Irish Water Safety Weeks 2013 ~ this year there will be two Water Safety Swim Weeks held in Narin – Portnoo. The dates are 29th July to 2nd August and 5th to 9th August. Swim Classes will take place at Narin Strand, and Water Safety Classes will be held off the Pier in Portnoo. Everyone is welcome for what is always a great experience of sea swimming, with excellent instructors, and good opportunity for young people to work for another Water Safety Badge. Registration will take place on Monday 29th at 10 a.m. at the beach and all information about times of classes etc. will be given then.
