Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 28th October 2011

A golf fundraiser will be held this Saturday at the club in aid of the Donegal Hospice. The format is a singles classic and tee-times can be booked by ringing the Pro Shop.

The club’s over-50s team played well in the away leg of its final with Ballybofey and Stranorlar but the score at the halfway point does not reflect that form. Only half a point was secured and the lads have it all to do in the home leg this weekend. We wish them every success.

Hugh Boyle won the Wednesday Open on October 12th, recording ten three-pointers on his card in a total of 43 points. The 19-handicapper was three under nett on the front nine and improved this score by a point coming home to win by three.

Mickey Campbell won the medal competition sponsored by the Glenties GAA in a break-off-tie from Donie McCole. The 11-handicapper birdied the second and twelfth and added his fair share of pars to the eventual total of 73 nett in a competition played in difficult conditions.

Stephen McHugh was the latest winner of a Wednesday Open, attacking the front nine with gusto and holding his game together on the more difficult return to the clubhouse. Birdies at the second and eighth yielded eight points and five other three-pointers further embellished his score.

The next presentation of prizes will take place on Saturday, November 5th at 8.30p.m. A sponsors’ event will take place earlier that day commencing at 10a.m.

The club has commenced a ringer competition for the winter months. Further details are available in the Pro Shop.
