Scout Group in Glenties

Interest has been expressed in starting a Scout Group in Glenties, and a meeting has been arranged to discuss the possibility. Kevin Ferguson the Support Officer for Scouting Ireland will be there to explain what it takes to get a Scout Group up and running.

Scouting Ireland is a multi- denominational organisation that delivers the Scouting programme to both boys and girls from the age of 6 to 18 years. Like any new group, getting adult volunteers to help out is vital to the success of a new group. Any adults (over the age of 18) who would be willing to give a few hours per week voluntarily, to support children in the local community and who would like to give it a go, would be given all the training, help and support they would need to run a successful Group.

It is intended to hold the open evening for adults who may be interested in finding out more about setting up a new Group in the area in The Highlands Hotel on Wednesday 20th May at 8.00pm. All are welcome.

Wild Atlantic Surf School – Kids Surf Camps

Our kids camps start in July when the school summer holidays commence. The camps provide a great opportunity to learn to surf, and the daily coaching helps build a great surf proficiency. The children learn how to paddle correctly, read waves, pop-up, build surf knowledge and by the end of the week they should all be standing and riding waves. The camps are also very strongly orientated on ocean safety and awareness. We teach the children about rip currents, tides, potential dangers and we educate them on how to enjoy and have a safe and fun time in the sea. The camps last 3 hours per day and consists of daily surf coaching, light refreshments and games on the beach.

The camps run daily from June 29th Monday – Friday from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

The price for the week is €90.

All equipment including wetsuits and surfboards are provided. The only requirements are swimwear, a towel, sandals/flip flops, sunscreen, a change of clothes, a light rain jacket and suitable footwear for beach games.
