Glenties Notes 16th January 2013

New Arrivals:
Congratulations to Sharon and Niall Gallagher, Upper Derries on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother (Conor) for Caitlin and Danielle.

Congratulations to Olivia and David Kelch, Narin Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their first child, a baby girl (Alexandra).

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to all those who have been bereaved in recent weeks:

Mary B. Sabine, Meenahalla Glenties died in Killybegs Hospital on Thursday 13th December 2012. Her Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday and burial took place in the New Graveyard after Requiem Mass on Saturday. Her husband Roy predeceased her in April 2012. Mary B. was formerly Gildea from The Rock, Glenties and a sister of Rose Molloy, Ardconnell, Glenties.

Liam Corbett, Meenahalla, Glenties died in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 15th December 2012. His Remains were brought to his home on Sunday and to Quigley’s Point on Tuesday for Requiem Mass and Burial. Liam, a native of Mayo was a Garda here in Glenties for many years and made his home in Meenahalla after his retirement.
Hugh Boyle, formerly of Maas and Main Street, Glenties died in Willowbrook Nursing Home, Newbridge, Co. Kildare on Tuesday 18th December 2012. Burial took place in Co. Kildare. Hugh and his wife Eilish had a business in Glenties, (where the Craft Shop is now), until they retired and moved to Kildare. Hugh was the last surviving member of the family of Patrick and Cassie Boyle, Maas, Glenties.

Maggie Toland, Meenamara, Glenties died in Brindley Manor, Nursing Home, Convoy on Wednesday 26th December 2012. Her Remains were brought home and burial took place in Edeninfagh after Requiem Mass on Friday. She is survived by two sons, Connie and Hugh.

Packie Gildea, Straboy died in Letterkenny Hospital on Tuesday 1st January 2013 after an accident. His Remains were brought home for waking and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday for Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Packie is a son of Gerry and the late Susan Gildea, Straboy, Glenties. He is survived by his father, Gerry, brothers John, Gerard and Joseph and one sister, Anne.

John (Dinny) Quinn, The Glen Tavern, Glenties died in Killybegs Hospital on Saturday 5th January 2013. His remains were brought home for waking and to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Monday for Requiem Mass, celebrated by his nephew Fr. Fr. Denis Quinn, Falcarragh, assisted by several other priests.

Daisy Sweeney, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties died in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 5th January 2013. Her Remains were brought home on Monday and burial took place in the New Graveyard on Tuesday after Requiem Mass. Daisy is survived by daughters, Jackie and Sharon, sons, Tom, Edwin, Bernard and David, grandchildren. Her husband Vincent predeceased her in 1998 and her son Martin in 2006.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bernadette Herron, Gortnasillagh, Glenties on the death in London on January 1st 2013 of her brother Frank Mc Hugh, formerly of Lough Doon, Portnoo.

Sincere sympathy is extended to John Dooley, Narin Road, Glenties on the death of his sister, which took place recently in England.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Eddie Mc Dyre, Derries, Glenties, who died on Monday 7th January 2013.

Volunteers Needed:
Volunteers are urgently needed for Laundry Service at the Day Centre, Glenties. Please contact the Day Centre at 9551766 or leave your name.

The winners in the Glenties Community Playgroup Christmas Hamper Draw were – 1st Prize – Large Hamper – Eamon Molloy, Carrick; 2nd Prize – Medium Hamper – Helen Mc Dyre, Maas, Glenties; 3rd Prize – Voucher for Highlands Hotel – Alan Moore; 4th Prize – Handmade Soap Gift Box and locally produced socks – Annie O’ Dwyer, Glenties; 5th Prize – Bottle of Whiskey – Natalie Hegarty, Glenties; 6th prize – Bottle of Whiskey – Brendan Mc Dyer, Glenties; 7th Prize – Tin of Cadbury’s Roses – Mairead Mc Geehan, Fintown; 8th Prize – Tin of Quality Street – Louise Sweeney. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Hamper Draw in any way.

Two-Hand and Ceílí Classes
Two-Hand and Ceílí Classes with Connie Mc Kelvey will take place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties every Wednesday night from 8.p.m – 10 p.m. Everyone welcome.
Glenties Community Action Group AGM:
The AGM will take place in the Community Centre on Wednesday 30th January from 8.30 p.m. All are welcome.
