Glenties Notes 18th May 2009
John Doherty
The death took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny early on Friday morning 8th May 2009 of John Doherty, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Tony Doherty (nephew) and John’s son Martin. Rory Quinn (grandnephew), Alison Doherty (granddaughter), Desmond Doherty (nephew), and son Gerry Doherty read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by granddaughters, Aoise and Karla Doherty. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell, Sinead Finn, Anne Quinn, Connie Mc Kelvey, Fiona Quinn and Sean Doherty. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, where Fr. Pat Prendergast said the prayers at the graveside. John is survived by his wife, Nellie, sons Connie, Hugo, Sean, Martin and Gerry, brother, Cornelius and sister, Rosie Mc Monagle, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary, Kitty and Annie and brother, Paddy.
Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to his mother, sisters, brothers, other relatives and friends of Dan Mc Dwyer, Kilraine who died on Friday 15th May.
Charity Cycle
The Rector’s Challenge is a Sponsored Cycle in aid of Church of Ireland and Local Charities. It will take place on Saturday 6th June, starting at 10 a.m. in Glencolmcille, via Ardara, Glenties, Portnoo and finishing in Lettermacaward. Everyone is welcome to take part in either the complete cycle or part of it. We are also looking for people to do the Golden Mile from Derries Junction into Town to cheer on our main cyclists. Moloney / Trimble Wedding
On Friday 1st May 2009 Breda Trimble and John Moloney were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Breda is a daughter of Patrick and Margaret Trimble, Maas, Glenties and John is a son of Edward and Una Moloney, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Denise and Martina and her niece Alisha Trimble were her bridesmaids. The groom’s brother was bestman and his friend, Paddy and John Egan were groomsmen. Flowergirls were Margaret Rose Trimble and Orla O’Donnell and the pageboy was Michéal Trimble. Readings were by Loretto, friend of the bride and Patricia, sister of the groom. The mothers of the bride and groom, Margaret Trimble and Una Moloney brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Maria Mc Cool and John O’ Donnell. The reception was held in Harvey’s Point Hotel and the honeymoon was spent in Boston, New York and Washington.
Angling on Lough Finn
The winners of the Jan Mc Geehan Ladies and Juniors Angling Competition on Lough Finn on Sunday10th May were – 1st Ann Quinn, Lough Muck, Fintown, 2nd Maried Molloy, Currien, Fintown and 3rd Mary Molloy, Ballinamore, Fintown. An Cumann Iascairí wish to thank Michael Mc Geehan for sponsoring this competition and also McGlynn’s Bar for refreshments. The Club’s next senior competition will be on Sunday 21st June.
Playschool / Afterschool
The Annual Glenties Playschool and Afterschool Collection will take place this weekend 23rd and 24th May. This collection will be at the Church Gate and a bucket collection will be at the Grotto on Saturday. This is the main fund-raiser for this very worthwhile facility in the community. We would appreciate if you could be as generous as possible. Thank You.
The children and staff in the Afterschool would like to thank everyone who supported our Cake Sale in the Playgroup Building and those who baked or gave donations. The total amount raised was € 517.51 and the money will be donated to the Animal Rescue Centre in Letterkenny.
