Glenties Notes 19th September 2012

Tug-O-War:
Congratulations to Connell, Donal and Jimmy Ward, Meenavale, Glenties on making history in the World Tug-O-War Championships in Switzerland by winning two World Titles.

Tidy Towns Competition:
Congratulations to Glenties Tidy Towns Committee on their high achievement in the National Competition; receiving a Gold Medal Award.

New Primary Care Centre:
Glenties New Primary Care Centre opened on Monday 17th September 2012; the telephone number will remain the same – 9551330.

Hospice Coffee Morning:
The 6th Class Pupils at St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh will host their annual “Coffee Morning” in the school on Thursday 20th September between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. All money raised on the day will go the Donegal Hospice. We extend an open invitation to the local community to come along, join us for a cuppa, and a chat, and help raise much needed funds for this very worthy cause.

Glenties Wind Farm Information Group:
The Glenties Wind Farm Information Group have received notification that an oral hearing will be convened by An Bord Pleanála on the 16th October next at 10 a.m. in the Highlands Hotel to decide on the massive wind farm project planned for the outskirts of the town. The Group represents the majority of the appellants and observers in the appeal to An Bord Pleanála against the decision earlier this year by Donegal County Council to grant permission for a 25 turbine wind farm at Straboy and adjacent townlands near Glenties. The Group intends to fully contest the grant of permission by Donegal County Council at the hearing. Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 11th September were – Carol Sweeney won the Jackpot of € 300; Maura Kilbane, Annie Cannon, Bridie Gallagher, Killybegs, Nellie Maguire, Nora Mc Hugh, Anne Timoney, Maria, Boyle, Margo Gallagher and Sarah Mc Glynn won € 100 each; Teresa Breslin, Maureen Gildea, Bid Fletcher, Brian Mc Loone, Kathleen Griffin, Mamie Mc Geehan, Ann Byrne, Molly Mc Geehan, Maggie O’ Donnell, Paula Hegarty and Bridie Doherty won € 50 each; Breege Mc Callig, Nora Mc Hugh, Winnie Long and Maggie O’ Donnell won €25 each.

Community Employment Scheme:

Glenties Community Playschool / Afterschool:
There are still some places available in our Pre-School and Afterschool service. The After school is open on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sports on a Tuesday in the local school Gym with Marty Boyle; Cooking, Paper Mache, Collage and Arts and Crafts on a Friday. Full hourly rate € 3.70 reduction available for parents qualifying under subvention; (this includes healthy snack for after school children). We have also secured funding from the Childcare Capital 2012 Programme to create a sensory garden and outdoor play area; the work is on-going and is due for completion in October 2012.
