Glenties Notes 26th February 2011

The Late John Mc Dermott
The death took place in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Tuesday 8th February 2011 of John Mc Dermott, Edeninfagh, (formerly Meenamara), Glenties. His Remains were brought to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Wednesday. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Breidin and James Gallagher. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. John provided the sound system for the graveyard Masses around the area for a number of years. He also played the bagpipes, and at one time was a member of the Ardaghey Pipe Band. A single member of the band led the cortege from the Church to the graveyard and the other members formed a Guard of Honour. John is survived by one sister Mary Anne who lives in Co. Clare, three nieces, one nephew, cousins, Rosemary Herron, Edeninfagh, Patrick Byrne, Drimnasillagh, John Brennan, Lough Finn, other cousins, relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

The Late Rose Breslin
The death took place at her home on Thursday 10th February 2011 of Rose Breslin, Ardconnell, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to the Church on Saturday. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard.

Rose is survived by three sons, James, John and Vincent, six daughters, Kathleen, Josephine, Philomena, Marita, Carmel and Mary, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended..

Her husband Ally died in March 2002. She is the last surviving member of the family of Willie and Mary O’Donnell, Gortnasillagh.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Pat Mc Hugh, Straoughter, Glenties who died at his home last Thursday 17th February.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of James Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties, who died in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny last Thursday 17th February.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bridie and Rose Mc Cahill, Derries on the death of their mother, Bridie Duffy, which took place in Letterkenny Hospital last Friday 18th February; also to all the relatives and friends.

Glenties Community Centre
The Community Centre Committee are installing a lift and associated works at a cost of € 32, 000 for the upgrading of the hall, beginning in April. Bingo takes place in the Community Centre every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Please support. Country Night in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on 4th March. Music is by Rambling Fever and the dance starts at 9.30 p.m. Come and enjoy a good night. Two full size Snooker Tables available to play 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. each night, except Tuesday. Older persons particularly welcome.

St. Riaghan’s Enrolment Day
Parents wishing to enrol their children at St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh for the school year 2011 /2012 are invited to call to the school for an Enrolment Form. “Enrolment Day” will be held on Thursday 3rd March. On this day parents are asked to bring their child to the school at 11.15 a.m. so that they can sample “School Life” in the Junior Room. Parents can have a cuppa and a chat with the Principal.
