Friends of Letterkenny Hospital
The Friends of Letterkenny Hospital wish to thank everyone who contributed to their Annual Harvest Fair Day Collection. The amount raised was € 776.90.

Jiving Lessons
Jiving lessons started in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Monday 26th September at 9.00 p.m. Seamus Melvin is the dancing teacher. Everyone is welcome.

Glenties Community Centre
Bingo takes place every Tuesday night in the Community Centre, Glenties at 9 p.m. Every Line is € 50, every House is € 100 and the Jackpot is € 400. In house Draws also take place. Snooker every evening except Tuesday, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Graveyard Mass in Edeninfagh
Next Sunday 7th August Mass will be celebrated in Edeninfagh Graveyard at 3.00 p.m.

Late Connie Mc Grath
The death took place in Killybegs Hospital on Tuesday 26th July 2011 of Connie Mc Grath, Meenahalla, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Kevin Herron and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Connie is survived by his wife, Nancy, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Three brothers, Patrick, Eddie and Michael John and one sister, Kathleen Mc Cann predeceased him. He was the last surviving member of the family of Edward and Hannah Mc Grath of Meenahalla, Glenties.

Late Mamie Roarty
The death took place on Tuesday 26th July 2011 in Harbour Lights Nursing Home, after a long illness, of Mamie Roarty, Meenahalla and Church Road, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday evening. Her cousin Fr. John Mc Loone, Frosses celebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. Family members did the Readings and Prayers of the Faithful. Psalm was by Mamie’s sister- in-law, Nora Gallagher. Other music and singing was by Kevin Herron and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Mamie is survived by her niece and nephew, Ann and Frank O’ Donnell, Ardconnell, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband James predeceased her sixteen years ago and her only sister Kathleen O’ Donnell died in October 2009.

Glenties Community Action Group are creating a brochure that will publicise Glenties and the surrounding area. The brochure will include information about Glenties, including tourist activities and historical information, and a business/services listing.

Fintown Festival / Leisure Cycle
In association with Fintown Festival Committee, Tír Chonaill GAP Cycling Club are holding a Leisure Cycle during the Festival, on Saturday 4th June starting at 1 p.m. Registration is at 12 noon. Ladies GAA –‘Wax, Shave and Dye Night’

Please come and support our ‘Wax, Shave and Dye Night’ on Friday 27th May in Melly’s Bar, Glenties at 9 p.m. in aid of the U- 14 Girls Trip to the All Ireland Féile in Cork. Have a fun night and support the girls.

Ulster Champions
Congratulations to the girls from Scoil Mhuire who won the Ulster 5 / side FAI Championships, held in Cavan last Thursday 19th May, having defeated Cavan (8-0), Monaghan (4-0) and Inishowen (7-1) Girls Champions. They will be playing in the All Ireland Finals against the three other provinces in Tullamore on June 1st. The girls have now won the County Gaelic, the County Soccer and Ulster Soccer; not forgetting the boys who won the County Gaelic. Well done to boys and girls and best wishes in the finals. Fintown Festival / Vintage Tractor Run

The Late Sean Boyle
The death took place at his home on Tuesday 1st March 2011 of Sean Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Gerard Cunningham (cousin of Sean’s) concelebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Sean is survived by his wife, Una, sons, John and Cartha, daughters, Michelle and Elaine, grandchildren, brothers, Cara, Benny and Eamonn, sisters, Annette and Nora, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. He was predeceased by his brother Josie on the Saturday previous to his own death February 26th. Another brother, Donal and sister Celine also predeceased him.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Ronan Molloy, Mill Road, Glenties on the death of his mother, Marie Molloy, Drumbarron, Ardara, which took place on Saturday 12th March 2011 in Letterkenny Hospital; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Teresa Gallagher, Meenahalla and Paper Stop, Main St. Glenties on the sudden death of her father, Donnelly Duffy, New Mills, Letterkenny, which took place last Saturday 12th March 2011; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Annie O’Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties, who died in Killybegs Hospital on Monday 14th March 2011. Annie was 103 years old.

Scoil Mhuire Enrolment Day
Enrolment Day at Scoil Mhuire, Glenties for school year 2011-2012 will take place on Thursday 31st March between1:15- 3:00 pm. All incoming pupils are welcome to visit at this time, to see their new classroom for next year and perhaps meet a friend or two. The Late James Boyle
The death took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny, on Thursday 17th February 2011 of James Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Shane Gallagher C.C. Glenties. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. James is survived by his wife, Gracie, daughters, Rosemary, Caroline, Grainne and Emma, sons, James, Charlie and Marty, brother, Charlie, sisters, Lena, Mary and Bernadette, aunts, Bridget Mc Groarty, Birmingham and Teresa Breslin, Ardara, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Glenties Golf Society
At a well attended meeting in the Highlands Hotel, the following were elected to run the Glenties Golf Society for 2011 – Captain- Patrick Gallagher; Vice-Captain- Columba Gavigan; Secretary – Pat Connaghan; Treasurer – Harold Reid; Competitions and Handicaps – John Molloy and PRO – Sean Connaughton. A fixture list will be available shortly with the first outing in Narin Portnoo on Saturday 26th March. A weekend outing in early summer is also being planned. All golfers from the Glenties area are asked to join and it is also the hope that the lady membership will increase.

Naomh Conaill Ladies Registration for 2011
Registration will take place this Friday Night 4th March in the Club House from 8 p.m. – 9 p.m. All those intending to play or be involved with any team need to be registered. A parent or guardian needs to attend for underage players. New members are welcome. Fee is € 51.00, for adult players € 36 for U 18 players and € 21 for U 10 players. For Non players the fee is € 26 (this applies to all managers, mentors, coaches, refs. or any one helping on the sideline).

Glenties Notes 26th February 2011

The Late John Mc Dermott
The death took place in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Tuesday 8th February 2011 of John Mc Dermott, Edeninfagh, (formerly Meenamara), Glenties. His Remains were brought to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Wednesday. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass on Thursday. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Breidin and James Gallagher. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. John provided the sound system for the graveyard Masses around the area for a number of years. He also played the bagpipes, and at one time was a member of the Ardaghey Pipe Band. A single member of the band led the cortege from the Church to the graveyard and the other members formed a Guard of Honour. John is survived by one sister Mary Anne who lives in Co. Clare, three nieces, one nephew, cousins, Rosemary Herron, Edeninfagh, Patrick Byrne, Drimnasillagh, John Brennan, Lough Finn, other cousins, relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

The Late Rose Breslin
The death took place at her home on Thursday 10th February 2011 of Rose Breslin, Ardconnell, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to the Church on Saturday. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard.

Rose is survived by three sons, James, John and Vincent, six daughters, Kathleen, Josephine, Philomena, Marita, Carmel and Mary, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended..

Her husband Ally died in March 2002. She is the last surviving member of the family of Willie and Mary O’Donnell, Gortnasillagh.

The Community Centre Committee are installing a lift and associated works at a cost of € 32, 000 for the upgrading of the hall, beginning in April. Bingo takes place in the Community Centre every Tuesday at 9 p.m. Please support. Country Night in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on 4th March. St. Riaghan’s Enrolment Day
Parents wishing to enrol their children at St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh for the school year 2011 /2012 are invited to call to the school for an Enrolment Form. “Enrolment Day” will be held on Thursday 3rd March. On this day parents are asked to bring their child to the school at 11.15 a.m. so that they can sample “School Life” in the Junior Room. Parents can have a cuppa and a chat with the Principal. U21 County Champions
Well done to our U/ 21 GAA team, who are county champions for the fourth time having defeated St. Michael’s on Sunday last in Letterkenny.

Collection
The Church Gate Collection taken up recently in aid of the Lourdes Invalid Fund amounted to € 495.76.  Thank you to all who donated so generously.

Glenties Community Playgroup

The Church Gate Collection in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland will take place at all Masses next weekend.  This collection helps to provide respite for the almost 2,200 families living with Alzheimer’s in Donegal.

The A.G.M. of the Care of the Aged Committee takes place on Monday 7th February at 7.30 p.m.
