Glenties Notes 5th September 2012

New Arrival:
Congratulations to Tracy and Frankie Devine, Mully, Glenties on the birth recently, of their first child, a baby girl

Sheep Dog Trials:
Sheep dog Trials were held in Glenties on 25th and 26th August 2012. 27 sheepdogs took part on Saturday evening with Patsy Sullivan winning the Farmers Class and Gerry O’Dwyer winning the 30 mile radius competition. On Sunday there were 61 sheepdogs taking part with Raymond Kee winning the Intermediate and James McGee winning the Open. Sheepdog Trials have not taken place in Glenties for over 35 years and it was great to see such a large turnout. The Trials this year were organised by Gerry O’Dwyer and Hughie Mooney and aided by some of their friends. Many thanks are due to John McLoone who kindly donated the use of the field. Thanks are also due to everyone who helped out on the dates and on previous days getting the field ready etc. and to the business people of both Glenties and Ardara who sponsored prizes for the draw. This will be an annual event, getting bigger year by year.

Naomh Conaill:
Following the wonderful performance of our county team in the semi-final, we find ourselves in the wonderful position of planning for the All-Ireland Final at the end of September. One of the main tasks of the club over the next few weeks will be in acquiring and distributing tickets. The demand for tickets will exceed our allocation. This will mean that many will be disappointed. The club will initially allocate tickets to full members who apply. If surplus tickets are available these will be allocated by a committee to those active within the club. Any person wishing to apply for a ticket must attend the Clubhouse next Friday night – 7th September from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. When applying for a ticket each person must apply individually. Juveniles applying must be accompanied by a full member. Anybody wishing to confirm whether they are full members should contact the club registrar David Kelch on  087 922 0494. The club would ask all persons wishing to attend the game to also attempt to source tickets independently as this will reduce pressure on our own allocation.
