On Saturday 14th April 2007 John Mc Closkey and Avril Finnerty were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney. Fr. Philip Daly, Kilclooney, assisted by Fr. Pat Prendergast, Glenties and Fr. John Moore, friend of the bride officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. John is a son of Zeta and the late Seamus Mc Closkey Main Street, Glenties and Avril is a daughter of Tony and Patricia Finnerty, Kilclooney. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Anita, Niamh & Emma Finnerty and Edel Davies attended her. Joseph Mc Closkey, brother of the groom was bestman and two other brothers, Conor and Donal and a friend Brendan Mc Dyer were groomsmen. Alana Mc Nelis, niece of the groom was a flowergirl and Karl Finnerty, nephew of the bride was a pageboy. Readings were by Mary Mc Nelis, sister of the groom and Patrick Finnerty, brother of the bride. Prayers of the Faithful were read by Niamh and Emma Finnerty, Edel Davies, Conor Mc Closkey and Brendan Mc Dyer. Zeta and Patricia, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Therese Campbell was the soloist. She was accompanied by her niece, Lorna Campbell on the flute and Leonard Dorrian on the organ. The reception was held in Harvey’s Point, Lough Eske and the honeymoon is being spent in The Moldives and Dubai.

The death took place in LetterkennyHospital on Tuesday 17th April 2007 of Bridget Kelly (nee Mc Loone), Narin Road, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Wednesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday evening. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Friday morning at 11.00a.m. by Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties. Readings were by her sons, Michael and Seamus. Her daughter Maura, granddaughter, Sarah, daughters-in-law, Susan and Christine read Prayers of the Faithful. Maura and granddaughters, Emma and Sarah brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Bridget is survived by her husband, Johnny, Narin Road, sons, Michael and Seamus, daughter Maura in England, brother, Francie, Narin Road, sisters, Ann and Mary, Maas, Glenties, Margaret, South Africa and Winnie in Canada, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. She was predeceased by her brother, Barney Mc Loone some years ago. Bridget and her husband Johnny spent most of their lives in England before returning to their native land eighteen years ago.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Hugh Kennedy and family, Letterilly, Glenties on the death last week in Sligo Hospital of Hugh’s brother, Paddy, Dunkineely, (formerly Letterilly); also to all the other relatives and friends.
Next Sunday 29th April, children from 5th & 6th Classes will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Philip Boyce in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties at 11.00a.m.

There will be fundraising activities in the town in the next two weeks on behalf of the Kenya School Project at MaweniPrimary School, Mombasa, Kenya. MaweniSchool is in a very poor area to the north of Mombasa. There are about 2000 children taught in classes of up to 110 children per class, and a severe shortage of teachers. DonalCape from the town is going to spend the summer working in MaweniSchool as a volunteer through the Suas Irish colleges overseas aid programme. Monies collected from the fundraising will be going toward the cost of his work in the school. Kindly support this very worthy cause as best you can.
The Annual National St. Thérèse Day at Our Lady’s Shrine, Knock on Monday 7th May will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Proclamation of St. Thérèse, as Co-Patroness of all Missions and all Missionaries, with – Solemn Concelebrated Mass at 3.00p.m. Ceremony of the Blessing of the Roses, Veneration and Blessing with the Relics of St. Thérèse. The Relics are a special gift to the IrishChurch from the Carmelite Sisters in Lisieux. (See poster for more details).
Following on last weekend’s workshop ~ a Fiddle & Dance Workshop will be held in the Highlands Hotel on Saturday 19th May. Fiddle Class ~ 10a.m. Dance Workshop ~ 2p.m. Ceilí Dance in Edeninfagh Hall at 9p.m. Music by The Campbells and Friends. Admission is 5Euro.
