Glenties Notes on May 1st 2001

On Tuesday 17th April 2001 Daniel Kennedy and Maureen Breslin were married in St. Columba’s Church, Fintown. Fr. Gillespie, Fintown assisted by Fr. Prendergast, Glenties and Fr. Peoples, Donegal officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The groom is a son of Hughie and Mary Kennedy, Letterilly, Glenties and the bride is a daughter of John and the late Mary Mc Bride, Creeslough. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Anne Mc Bride was bridesmaid. Daniel Mc Loone, a friend of the groom was bestman. Readings at Mass were by the bride’s sisters, Pauline Mc Bride and Lily Durning. Mary and Bridie Kennedy, mother and sister of the groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in Castle Grove House, Ramelton Road, Letterkenny and the honeymoon was spent in Paris.

Congratulations to Christine Fletcher, Ard Patrick, and John Mc Cool, Main Street, Glenties who got engaged last week.

Congratulations to the young people from the five schools of the Parish who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Philip Boyce in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 29th April 2001. Names next week.

A Concert in aid of the Donegal Hospice will be given by the “Dalriada Singers”, Jordanstown, in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties, on Friday 4th May at 8.30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are available in Brennan’s Gift Shop and the Iniskeel Co-op. Glenties, priced £5.00, concessions – £4.00 and students – £2.50. Your support for this worthwhile event will be most gratefully appreciated.

A fundraising dance will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Wednesday 9th May in aid of the Cancer Unit, Crumlin. Music is by Country Traditions. Dancing is from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Admission is £3.00. Donations gladly accepted.
