Glenties Notes on May 20th 2004

The sudden death took place in Dungloe on Sunday 9th May 2004 of Mary Alice Kennedy, Dooey, Lettermacaward and formerly of Maas, Glenties. Later that evening her remains were brought to the home of her sister Bridget Mc Cahill, Dooey, where Mary Alice has resided for a number of years, and to St. Bridget’s Church, Lettermacaward on Tuesday morning. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties after Requiem Mass in Lettermacaward. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Trimble, Maas and Bridget Mc Cahill, Dooey, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her brother Jimmy predeceased her over thirty years ago and a sister, Ann died as a child. Her mother Mary, who lived at Mill Road, Glenties died in 1996.

Congratulations to Aoife Mc Donnell, Glen Road, Glenties, who was captain of the Donegal Ladies Minor football team who won the Ulster Title last week when they defeated Cavan. Congratulations to all her teammates and to Aisling Corcoran Meenahalla, Glenties, who was a sub on the winning team.

Congratulations to Finola and Niall Quinn, Ardboe, Co. Tyrone on the birth last week of their first child, a baby girl. Finola is a daughter of Neilie and Teresa Bonner, Ard Patrick, Glenties.

Congratulations and best wishes for many more years among us to Sonny Hanlon, Tullyard, Glenties who celebrated his 90th Birthday recently.

Congratulations to the boys and girls who received their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 15th May 2004 – Killian Doherty, Naoimi Molloy, Ryan Connaughton, Enya O’Callaghan, Hayleigh Byrne, Sinead Mc Geehan, Nicole Breslin, Nabla Furey, Kevin Mc Gettigan and Adalina Sewell. Fr. Prendergast assisted by Fr. Ó Gallachóir celebrated the Mass. The children did the Readings, read Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. The lovely singing was by children from Scoil Mhuire and Drimnacrosh schools accompanied by their tutor Anne Mc Dwyer on the organ and students from the Comprehensive School.

Congratulations also to Bréidín Browne and Conor Quinn who received their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday 16th May. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir celebrated the Mass.
