Naomh Conaill Notes 6th September 2011

Pride of place this week must go to our U10s who won the Dessie Hill/Jimmy Mc Cool Tournament hosted by the St Theresa club in Belfast last Saturday. A strong selection of teams from Belfast,Ulster and as far away as Dublin participated. Naomh Conaill were drawn in group A with St Brigid’s (with a certain Joe Brolly mentoring!), St Endas and host club St Teresa’s. This turned out to be the group of death with all four teams making the cup final and the shield final at the end of the day. They lost the first game against St Brigids in a very low scoring affair 0-2 to 0-1 but had good victories against St Endas and St Theresa. On the way to the final they also defeated St Comgalls(Antrim) and Gort na Mona from Belfast scoring a total of 9-23 and only conceded 1-4. This set up a rematch with St Brigids in the final who narrowly defeated St Eunans in the semi final. In a magnificent final Naomh Conaill emerged victorious 3-4 to 2-4. Well done to Amy Carr who was named player of the tournament scoring 4-4 over the day.We would like to thank the St Theresa club and Jeoff Murray who accompanied the team to his home club and made us feel very welcome.

Well done to Jack Flannery who finished 2nd in the county in the U12 county skills competition held in Convoy last Friday.

The U16s came from 10 points down against Gweedore in the Co Final last Wednesday evening in Letterkenny. The replay is provisionally fixed for this Sunday.

The minors beat St Johns 1-13 to 1-12 in Fintra in the 2nd leg of the championship last Monday evening. Both teams must meet again in a play off.

The 3rds must meet Naomh Ultan again after coming out on top in a very exciting finish with Hugh Breslin scoring a penalty with the kick of the game to clinch victory by 2 points.

The senior beat Cloughaneely 3-13 to 2-11 in the league last Saturday evening in Falcaragh.

Hard luck to the ladies who were beat by Cloghaneely in co final last Sunday in Convoy.
