Pictured being presented with the inaugural Francie Cunningham Memorial Trophy is Michael Nicholson. The Narin golfer won the event at Narin and Portnoo Golf Club and he is seen here with Bart Whelan, club president, Fionnuala Cunningham and Pat Connaghan, vice-captain.

Sunday’s medal was sponsored by Patrick Johnny Sally’s Bar in Dungloe and when word got around that Pauric Brennan had a score of 74, it was assumed that he would be there or thereabouts for victory.  The wind which had bedevilled fire-fighters in recent days wrecked the putting strokes of many a fine golfer (ahem!) while others found the challenge of finding the fairways on a consistent basis too hot to handle. Pauric did indeed figure in the shake-up, capturing a worthy runners-up spot. The victor, however, was out of sight! Peter Shovlin had the round of his life, achieving six pars and a plethora of scoring bogeys for a magnificent round of 66, seven under nett par. His winning margin of eight strokes was Tiger-like in its magnitude and the computer almost went into meltdown as it scalped four shots of the Dunkineely lad. Well done, Peter!

The May Day Rumble saw the trio of Anne Coyle, Dudley Coyle and Connor Taggart triumph with a score of 76 points. Their total dipped four points under the level par score of 72, a fine effort on a difficult scoring day.

Visitor, Michael Keane won the Wednesday Open with 36 points, pipping Mairtín Ó hIarnáin on a break-off-tie. Frankie Kennedy had the only two, resulting in an award of nine golf balls to the Killybegs man.

The club sympathises with Michael and Charlene on the recent passing of their grandmother, Kitty Watters.  May she rest in peace.

The Ardara Society are staging another Rider Cup qualifier at Narin this Saturday, May 14th, commencing at 9a.m.

Our Jimmy Bruen team narrowly failed to qualify last Sunday week at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club, missing out by five strokes. The team finished on 337, with the home team (325), Newtownstewart (331),  Letterkenny (322) and Cruit Island (332) going through to the matchplay stage. Kevin Patton’s pairs were Don Earley & Donie McCole; Paul Cooney & Pauric McHugh; Sean Hanrahan & Columba Gavigan; Noel Quinn & Cathal Donoghue; Eamon McGill & Joseph McLoone.

Hughie Moy’s Pierce Purcell team did not go through either, finishing nine shots off the fourth-placed score in Enniskillen on Sunday. Enniskillen (352), Castleblayney (355), Castle Hume (350) and Mannan Castle (359) progressed to the knockout stage.

Congratulations are in order to Gerald McDwyer who achieved a hole-in-one at the 16th hole in the GAP Challenge recently. Well done, Gerald!
