Glenties Notes 18th August 2011

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 9th August were – Liz Mc Manus won the Jackpot of € 400. Moya Mc Shane, Mary Melly, Philomena Mc Callaig, Mary Furey, Angela Quinn, Annie Timoney, Teresa Coyle, May Kennedy and Paddy Moore won € 100 each. Mary Ellen Gavigan, Majella Cunningham, Gracie O’Hara, Paula Hegarty, Hugo Mc Dyre, Fiona Gallagher, Anna Mc Dyre, Carmel Doherty, May Kennedy, Sarah Long, Eilish Doherty, Rosaleen Gallagher and Conal Conlan won € 50 each. Mickey Doherty and Julie Langan won € 25 each.

Melly / Doherty Wedding
Martine Melly and Barry Doherty were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 23rd July 2011. Fr. Shane Gallagher officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Martine is a daughter of Martin and Noreen Melly Letterilly, Glenties and Barry is a son of Michael and Leticia Doherty, Kilcar. Her father gave the bride away she was attended by her friends, Marie Gallagher, Maria Moy, Aisling Kelly, Donna Ryan and Emer Doherty sister of the groom. Eamonn Doherty, brother of the groom was bestman. Aaron Doherty, brother of the groom, Thomas Melly, brother of the bride, James Cunningham and Declan Conroy, friends of the groom were groomsmen. Alana Meehan was a flowergirl Michael Gallagher was a pageboy. Readings were by Margaret Mc Fadden and Sarah Melly, aunts of the bride. Anne Mc Fadden, Mary Meehan, Grainne Melly, Neil Melly and Amanda Mc Fadden read Prayers of the Faithful. Noreen Melly and Leticia Doherty, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Dean Connaghan, Zara Montgomery, Catherine Yore and Maria Moy. The reception was held in the Blue Haven and the honeymoon was spent in California.

Hegarty / Greenwood Wedding
Kieran Hegarty and Liz Greenwood were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 6th August 2011. Kieran is a son of John and Paula Hegarty, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Liz is a daughter of David and Angela Greenwood, Mullinamina, Glenties. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and she was attended by her sisters, Clare Greenwood and Katie Kearns and her friend Deirdre Dardis. John Boyle, friend of the groom, was bestman. Dermot Hegarty, brother of the groom and a friend, Derek Byrne were groomsmen. Ellie Kearns was a flowergirl. Readings were by brother of the groom, Paul Hegarty and a friend, Laura Craig. Stephanie and Natalie Hegarty, James Greenwood and Anne Boyce read Prayers of the Faithful. Angela Greenwood and Paula Hegarty, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell, Ben Craig and Sinead Finn. The reception was held in The Lake House and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Late Thomas J. Mc Dyer
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Thursday 4th August 2011 of Thomas J. Mc Dyer, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent and formerly of Derries, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Anne Mc Dwyer, Roisin O’Callaghan and Kevin Herron. Burial took place in Kilraine Graveyard. Thomas is survived by his brothers Packie and James, sisters Nan Harkin and Barbara Breslin, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His sister, Sally predeceased him in 2009 and a baby brother died in infancy.

Late Charlie Mc Devitt
The death took place at his home on Sunday 7th August 2011 of Charlie (Jim) Mc Devitt, Greenans, Glenties. His Remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Monday. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning. Burial took place afterwards in Edeninfagh Graveyard. Charlie is survived by his brother Gerry, Station Road, Glenties, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Another brother, Jimmy died in the U.S.A. in 1963.

Sea Food Evening
Sea Food Evening in aid of RNLI will be held at Roddy’s Bar, Glenties next Sunday 21st at 7 p.m. Live Music by ‘Guilty of Rhythm’. There will be Face Painting and Play Tunnel for Kids. Everyone is welcome.
