Glenties Notes 23rd August 2012

Bonner / Quinn Wedding:
Neil Bonner and Nicola Quinn were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 4th August 2012. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Neil is a son of Teresa and the late Neilie Bonner, Ard Patrick, Glenties and Nicola is a daughter of James and Rosaleen Quinn, Summy, Portnoo. Her father gave the bride away and her sister Lisa Quinn, her cousin, Yvonne Quinn and friend Fidelma Toland attended her. Michael Bonner, brother of the groom was bestman. Another brother John and a friend, Cathal Boyle were groomsmen. Megan Quinn Bonner was flowergirl and Noah Quinn Bonner was a pageboy. Megan also read a Blessing for her Mum and Dad after the marriage ceremony. Readings were by Glenn Quinn, brother of the bride and Finola Quinn, sister of the groom. John Campbell, Stephanie Brennan, Katrina Bonner, Ciara O’Donnell and Danielle Boyle read Prayers of the Faithful. Rosaleen Quinn and Teresa Bonner, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Deirdre Doherty. The reception was held in The Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny and the honeymoon was spent in Spain.

The Late Eddie Mc Guigan:
The death took place in the early hours of Monday 6th August 2012 of Eddie Mc Guigan, Daraghan, Glenties. His Remains were brought to St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Wednesday 8th for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, which was celebrated by Fr. Gerard Cunningham. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the adjoining Graveyard. Eddie is survived by his wife Kitty, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Eimear O’ Donnell, Mill Road and Imelda Doherty, Narin Road, Glenties on the death of their aunt, Bridget Mc Elhinney, Doochary, which took place recently.

Harvest Fair Festival:
The Harvest Fair Festival tales place from 7th – 12th September.

Thanks:
Joe and Anne Craig would like to thank everybody who helped with the Bucket Collection and on the morning of the Annie Behan Memorial Walk / Run in aid of The Donegal Hospice. The amount raised was € 3,030.

Glenties Museum and Heritage Centre:
The Tourist Office is now open at the Museum; all local tourist providers, e.g. B & Bs, Hotels, Self-Catering, Sports and Recreational providers are asked to leave supplies of their brochures in the Museum, which is open daily from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Glenties Sheep Dog Trials:
Sheep Dog Trials will be held down the Church Road Glenties beside the GAA field this Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of August 2012. There will be a car boot sale on the 26th August. Ring 074 9557880 (10am to 2pm) or 087 2679321. For more information email glentiescommunitycentre@yahoo.ie.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo in the Glenties community centre every Tuesday night at 9 p. m.. Every line €50; every house €100; if not won Snowball Jackpot €2600 on Tuesday 21st August on 45 numbers; if not won €300 paid out. Inhouse draws.

Zumba in the Glenties Community Centre every Wednesday night from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Weight Watchers in the Glenties Community Centre every Thursday evening from 6 p.m.

Community Employment Scheme:

Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 14th August were – Annie Gallagher won the Jackpot of € 300; Kathleen Griffin, Sara Mc Glynn, Ann Breslin, Margo Gallagher, Sally Mc Guigan, Majella Boyle and Joan Rodgers won € 100 each; Charles Mc Carron won € 60; Philomena Mc Callig, Kathleen Griffin, Louise Breslin, Sally Mc Hugh, Mary Bonner, Leticia Gallagher, Eileen Gallagher, Teresa Mc Kelvey, Fintown, Joan Rodgers, Nadine Furey. Susan Gildea, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Mary Boyle, Burtonport, James Deane and Cissie Meehan won € 50 each; Sahra Mc Ginty, Bella Boyle and Mary Mc Brearty won € 20 each.

Fund-raising Album launch of Laughlin Sisters:
“Sara and Jennifer Laughlin will launch their first album on Saturday 25th August in the Highland’s Hotel, Glenties at 8.30 p.m. This album will be launched on an evening of music and dance with many surprise guests appearing on the night. There will be a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity on the night to earn yourself a run in a WRC Subaru S12B, driven by Declan Boyle (on a test day). All proceeds from the night and the album will go to the Oncology Unit in Letterkenny General Hospital. This C.D. will act as our token of appreciation and thanks to the dedicated staff there, who have dedicated themselves to the care of patients suffering along the turbulent road which cancer brings to the lives of many of us, our families and friends. Come along and enjoy a fantastic night’s entertainment while supporting a very worthy cause. You will most certainly not be disappointed and hopefully go away from the night a little more uplifted by the power of music and of course rallying. ”

Caretaker Needed:
Community Employment Scheme is looking for a Caretaker for the Glenties Community Centre. 19 1/2 hours work per week. Hours agreed with committee. Fás criteria apply.

Naomh Conaill 5K:
On Tuesday August 28th at 7 p.m. Naomh Conaill will host their inaugural 5 K Road Race Fun Run / Walk. The starting point is at the Naomh Conaill clubhouse and registration is from 6 p.m. There is ample car parking at the grounds and full changing / shower facilities available. Tea / refreshments will be provided after the run. Entry is € 7 for adults; under16s are free. A BouncyCastle will also be on site so come along and enjoy the evening.
