Glenties Notes 31st August 2012

Gallagher / Mc Cann Wedding:
Carol Gallagher and Brendan Mc Cann were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 11th August 2012. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Carol is a daughter of Phil and Nora Gallagher, Buncrubog, Glenties and Brendan is a son of Patricia and the late Sean Mc Cann, Colooney, Co. Sligo. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Mary Byrne and Noreen Gallagher and her niece, Laura Gallagher attended her. David Timlin was bestman and Brendan Mahon and Niall Hunt were groomsmen, all friends of the groom. Grace O’ Farrell was Flowergirl and Shane Byrne was Pageboy. Readings were by Sinéad O’Farrell, sister of the groom and Margaret Mc Devitt, sister of the bride. Philip Gallagher, Emily Napfle, Paul Quinn, Patricia O’Connell and Michael Mc Devitt read Prayers of the Faithful. Nora Gallagher and Patricia Mc Cann, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and Síobhan Browne. The reception was held in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey and the honeymoon was spent in Bali and Singapore.

The Late Mary Byrne:
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 11th August 2012 of Mary Byrne, Maas, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday evening. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful, singing and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Mary is survived by four brothers, Packie, Manus, Leo and Jamsie and one sister, Nora, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Five brothers, Josie, Charlie, John, Michael and Danny and one sister, Annie predeceased her.

The Late Richard Hanlon:
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Tuesday 7th August 2012 of Richard Hanlon, Tullyard, Glenties. Born on the 9th July 1924 Richard was the youngest member of the family of Thomas and Rebecca Hanlon, Tullyard. He was predeceased by five brothers, Robert James (Sonny) Tom, Charles, Alec and William and two sisters, Katherine Elliott and Isobel Boyd. Richard will be sadly missed by his wife, Susan and all his family, friends and relatives to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Rev. John Deane officiated at his funeral in St. Connell’s Church of Ireland, Glenties. Burial took place in the adjoining Graveyard.

Community Employment Scheme:

Weekend of Dancing:
Club Céilí na Gleantaí presents the 8th Annual ‘Weekend of Dancing’ in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties from Friday 14th – Sunday 16th September

Caretaker Needed:
Community Employment Scheme is looking for a Caretaker for the Glenties Community Centre; 19 1/2 hours work per week. Hours agreed with committee. Fás criteria apply.

Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 21st August were – Hugh Gallagher won the Jackpot of € 300; Claire Keeney, James Gallagher, Faye Moore, Anna Mc Dyre, Mary Gallagher, Sally Mc Guigan and Kathleen Mc Glynn won €100 each; Margaret Melly, Mary Doherty, Ann Marie Cunningham, Patricia White, James Gallagher, Claire Keeney, Shannon Mc Hugh, Brown Kid, Teresa Molloy, Lee Townsend, May Kennedy, Mary Boyle, Faye Moore, Bernadette Gallagher and Anne Kennedy, Dungloe won € 50 each; Maura Kilbane and Anne Mc Nulty won € 25 each.

Irish Dancing Classes:
Irish Dancing Classes will resume on Tuesday 4th September in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties; Beginners and Junior Class at 4 p.m.; Advanced class at 5 p.m.
