Glenties Notes 8th December 2011

Herron / Boyle Wedding
The marriage of Francis Herron and Patricia Boyle took place in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on Saturday 26th November 2011. Fr. Philip Daly, Kilclooney assisted by Fr. Pat Prendergast, Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Francis is a son of Patrick and Bernadette Herron, Letterilly, Glenties and Patricia is a daughter of Jimmy and Philomena Boyle, Rosbeg. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters Caroline Carr, Marie Carr and Helen Boyle attended her. Michael Herron, brother of the groom was bestman. Conal Herron, brother and Micheal Brennan, cousin of the groom were groomsmen. Emily Herron was a junior bridesmaid and Lara Herron was a flowergirl. Readings were by Brigid Herron, sister of the groom and Brian Carr, brother-in-law of the bride. Catherine Watters and Cliona Boyle read Prayers of the Faithful. Philomena Boyle and Bernadette Herron, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. A Reflection was read by Peter Gallagher. Music and singing was by Deirdre Doherty. The reception was held in The Mill Park Hotel, DonegalTown and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Journey to the Manger
The Christmas story will never change. The message of hope, joy and love is still offered today, just as it has been over many centuries. The staff and children of Scoil Mhuire would like you to join them on Wednesday 14th December in St Connell’s Church, Glenties at 6.00 p.m. (Please note change of time) for an evening in which they re-enact the Journey to the Manger as they rediscover the meaning of Christmas and all it means. This will be followed by refreshments and a draw in Scoil Mhuire School Gym. Looking forward to seeing you all on what promises to be a wonderful night!

The John Giles Foundation 7 a Side Soccer Competition
The Boys and Girls of Scoil Mhuire won the Regional Finals of John Giles 7 a Side Soccer Competition. Unfortunately the boys lost in the County semi-finals, but the Girls went on to win their CountyFinal in Ballybofey on Thursday 1st December. Well done to the boys and girls who brought three lovely Trophies back to their school. This is the first time this competition was ever held.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 29thNovember were – Sarah Long, Fintown won the jackpot of € 400. Christine Mc Cool, Anne Whyte, Ardara, Anne Davison, Burtonport, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Denise Campbell, Rosaleen Melly, Cathy Connell and Breege Coyle won € 100 each. Denise Campbell, Anne Quinn, Mary Kennedy, Main Street, Rosaleen Gallagher Ardara, Emer O’ Donnell, Martin Mc Taggart, Yvonne Doherty, Michael Byrne, Naticha Dorerthy, Naticha Dorerthy, Naticha Dorerthy, Mc Devitt, Paddy Gallagher and Michael Dorerthy won € 50 each. Hugh Gallagher and Isabel Boyle won € 25 each.

Loreto Sister
Loreto Sister Mary Elizabeth Kirke, who is a niece of the late Eileen Kennedy, Kilraine, has been living in Peru, in the Andes of Amazonas Province, for almost six years. Sr. Elizabeth would like to make an appeal in some Churches such as in Glenties where she has roots or connections. She is involved with the people of many villages in this Northern part of Peru, who are anxious to plant trees and improve the level of agriculture in their areas, but who have no resources to help them to do this. Sr. Elizabeth will speak at all the Masses in Glenties next weekend and we will have a Special Bucket Collection for her Peru Appeal.

Preparation for Christmas
“You are invited to set aside an hour a week during the next few weeks of Advent to refresh yourself body and soul as you join in some quiet and reflective time here at The Convent in Gortnamucklagh on Thursday 8th, Wednesday 14th and Wednesday 21st at 8 p.m.”

Santa coming to Kilraine
GAP Tourism has invited Santa to the Gap Walking Trail (Bord na Mona site) on Saturday 10th December from 4.30 p.m. – 6. 00 p.m. Tickets are on sale in your local Post Office. Cost is € 10 for one child and € 25 for three of more. Any queries please contact Rosemary on 087 9692076.

Christmas Variety Concert
A Variety Concert, featuring a range of local talent will take place in the Community Centre, Glenties on Friday 9th December at 8 p.m. Admission is € 5. Proceeds are in aid of Glenties Community Action Group. Come along and enjoy a good night’s entertainment. More information here
