Glenties Notes 18th July 2014

U/14 Football:
Congratulations to the U / 14 Girls who won the County Final when they beat Termon recently in O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny.

Best wishes to the U / 14 Boys who are through to the County Final after winning the Regional Final and beating Buncrana in the County Semi-Final.

Water Safety Weeks 2014:
The annual Water Safety Weeks will take place in Narin and Portnoo during the weeks of Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August and Monday 4th to Friday 8th August. The aim of these weeks is to increase awareness of all aspects of sea swimming and water safety. All levels of beginners and swimmers are welcome; under the supervision of qualified instructors they will work towards a suitable certificate awarded by Irish Water Safety. Registration for all will take place at the beach at 9 a.m. on Monday 28th July and Monday 4thAugust, and a timetable will be given to the parents then.

Piano – thon and Concert for Hospice:
On Sunday 27th July the Music Students of Anne Mc Dwyer are taking part in a “Piano – thon” to raise money for The Donegal Hospice. This is taking place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties, from 10 a.m. through to 6 p.m. All the students will be taking part and playing the piano throughout the day. Admission is by donation so feel free to drop in. In the evening, there will be a more formal concert at 8 p.m., with performances by past and present senior students with a raffle at the interval. Admission is € 10.

The Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection:
The Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection, taken up recently in Glenties & Edeninfagh, amounted to € 572.07. Many Thanks for your contributions.

Annie Behan Memorial Walk / Run.
The Behan Family would like to Thank Everyone who helped in any way in organising or taking part in the Annie Behan Memorial Walk / Run. The amount raised was € 1, 737 for The Donegal Hospice.

Open Day at The Church of Ireland Glenties:
An Open Day at the Church of Ireland Glenties with Cake Sale and Tea Party will take place on Tuesday 22nd July from 11.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every line € 50, every house €100. Jackpot if not won will be € 5,900 on Tuesday 9th April. If not won € 300 will be paid. In-house draws.

Snooker Room opened from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. daily except Tuesday. It closes at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. On Saturday and Sunday – Snooker Room opened from 12.noon to 10 p.m.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 12th May 2013 at 11.00 a.m.

First Holy Communion:
Children from St. Riaghan’s, Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties, at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday 25th May. Children from Edeninfagh N. S. will receive their First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family at 12 Mid-Day Mass on Sunday 26th May.

Glenties Playgroup & After School:
The After School is now taking names for those interested in An Arts & Crafts Session. This will take place every Thursday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Children will be picked up from Scoil Mhuire and provided with a healthy snack on arrival. Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 31st January were – John Mc Loone and Anne Davison won € 200 each. Maura Kilbane, Anne Furey, Denise Campbell, Bridget Mc Cabe, Frosses, Bridget Mc Cabe, Frosses, Brenda Reid, Sarah Mc Glynn and L. Doherty won € 100 each. Bridie Boyle, John O’ Donnell, Norah Gallagher, Eileen Maguire, Mary Ward, Fidelma Burke, Annie Deane, Rose Mc Fadden, Paddy Mc Gill, Nan Doherty and B. Fitzpatrick won € 50 each. Emily Thompson won € 40. Paddy Moore, Anne White, Bernadette Gallagher, John O’ Donnell, Teresa Molloy and Shaun Maloney won € 25 each.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Joe Boyle formerly of Glen Road, Glenties who died recently in Canada. Joe was a brother of the late Eugene Boyle, Glen Road.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and family and all the relatives and friends of Charlie Deacy, Quay Road, Ballina, Co. Mayo, who died on Thursday 26th January 2012 in CastlebarHospital. Charlie came to Glenties as an Inspector in 1973. He was promoted to Superintendent in 1980 and was transferred to Letterkenny. He returned to Glenties as permanent Superintendent in 1981 where he remained until 1988, when he was transferred to Ballina. He lived on the Ardara Road, Glenties before he built his new home on the Glen Road. He is survived by his wife Maura, three daughters, Evelyn Caroline and Regina and one son, Cathal.

Charity Ceilí
A Charity Ceilí will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 18th March. Dancing is from 9 p.m. – 12. Music is by The Long Note and admission is €10 (including supper). All proceeds will go to – Palliative Care Team, Donegal Hospice

Naomh Conaill C.I.G. Presentation Night
A Hot Buffet and Dance will take place in the Highlands Hotel Glenties on Saturday 18th February at 8 p.m. Music is by ‘Derailed’. Tickets are € 20 and are available in the Paperstop, The Co-op and The Craft Gallery.

Volunteers Wanted

Zumba Fitness Classes in Glenties
Every Tuesday Morning at 10.45 a.m. & Every Wednesday Evening at 7 p.m. in the Community Centre, Glenties. Zumba exercises include music with fast and slow rhythms. The music comes from dance styles including cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha & reggaeton. You don’t need a partner or to be a good dancer to Zumba, just follow my simple moves & before you know it, you’ll be getting a great cardio workout in a fun party atmosphere!! Wear runners, comfortable clothes & bring a bottle of water. Dance breakdowns during every class so you can join in at your own pace. The Parish based Programme for First Holy Communion called – “Do This in Memory” will continue Next Sunday – 12th February at 11 a.m. Mass.

Enrolment Forms are available from the School Office from Monday 6th February until Monday 13th February. Children will be invited to experience School Life at a later date in June.

Scoil Mhuire
Enrolment Day for Scoil Mhuire takes place on Friday 10th February between 1.30 p.m. and 3 .00 p.m. You may bring your child to see his / her new classroom and perhaps meet a few new friends.

Special Olympics
Special Olympics will hold their Annual Church Gate Collection next weekend Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February. Special Olympics rely on this collection to help them raise the necessary funds to continue their work with existing athletes.

Art Classes
Johnny Boyle Art Classes have begun again in the Highlands Hotel on Tuesday Nights at 8.00 p.m.

Marie Keating Information Bus Cancellation
Unfortunately the Marie Keating Cancer Information Mobile Unit will NOT be in Ardara on 14th February.
