Church of Ireland Dance:
The Church of Ireland Dance will be held in Elliott’s Bar and Lounge, Leitir on Saturday 22nd February starting at 9 p.m. Great music by G Bustard. Everyone is very welcome and refreshments will be served

Course for Engaged Couples:

Country Stars at Owenea FM’s Celebration Dance

A host of country music stars will be performing at Owenea FM’s celebration dance at the Nesbitt Arms Hotel, Ardara, on Saturday November 2nd. The line-up, marking the Ardara based community radio station’s return to the airwaves a week later, includes Lisa Stanley, Shaun McMonagle, Gerrard McTaggart and support band Wagon Wheel. A new face to country music, Johnny Garvin from Co. Mayo, will also be appearing.

Tickets for the dance, which will also include a jiving competition to find Owenea FM’s champion for 2013, went on sale this week at just €5. The community radio station, serving Ardara, Glenties, Portnoo and the surrounding area, has recently gained a 100 day licence from Broadcasting Authority Ireland which will allow it to transmit two days a week.

Station manager Pauric Gallagher, said this week: “November 2nd is certainly going to be a big country music night of entertainment to mark our return to the airwaves.” Proceeds from the evening will go towards the conversion costs of its new studio in Kentucky and additional hi-tech equipment. The station stopped transmitting in August.

His Remains were brought to his home for waking and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday morning for RequiemMass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard.

Sincere sympathy is extended to her son Kevin and all the relatives and friends of Kate Quinn, Ardara and formerly of
Main Street, Glenties, who died in LetterkennyHospital on Friday 22nd June 2012.

Collection:
The Annual Church Gate Collection for Donegal Hospice will be taken up before all the Masses next weekend Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July.

Mission Appeal:
Next weekend Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July Missioners from The Holy Ghost Missions will speak at all Masses and make their Mission Appeal.

Mass in Rossnowlagh:
A bus will leave Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday 3rd July and every first Tuesday for Mass in Rossnowlagh. The organisers wish to make an appeal for more people to join them.

Fundraising Country Dance:
A Fundraising Country Dance organised by the Mid – West Donegal Vintage Club will be held in the Highlands Hotel, on Saturday 30th June in aid of the Irish Kidney Association. Music is by Lisa Mc Hugh and her band. Dancing is from 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. There will be a Jiving Contest and refreshments will be served. Your support will be much appreciated for this worthy cause. Naomh Conaill Notes 24th January 2012

At the clubs executive meeting last week Martin Doherty and Stephen Mc Kelvey were appointed Senior team managers, Connie Doherty U-21 and Martin Shankey Smith Vice-Chairman. Congratulations to all on there appointments.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 8,10,19&26. Two prizes of €50 went to Cormac Molloy, Mill Road and Joseph Gallagher, Derries, Glenties. Next weeks jackpot is €3,100.

The 4th draw in the 200 club took place last Tuesday night at the Community centre bingo and the winners were – €500 Conal Gallagher, Mill Road, Glenties. 5 prizes of €100 each went to Aaron Thompson Ard Mc Gill, Kevin Mc Hugh The Rock, Roísín Bonner Glen Road, Joe Kennedy Kilraine and Francsi Houston The Co-op.

The clubs buffet presentation dance will take place in The Highlands Hotel on Saturday 18th February. Music by De-railed. Tickets €20 and will be on sale from this weekend from The Paperstop, The Co-Op, The Craft gallery or contact Rosaleen Doherty on 087 6235023.

There will be a referees beginners course on Saturday 4th February @ 9.30am. A referees refreshers course on Thursday 16th Febrauary @ 7.30pm. An Umpires course on Wednesday 29th February @ 7.30pm. Anyone interested in any of the courses is asked to contact Patsy Furey.

Ladies registration will take place in the clubhouse on Friday 27th January from 7-8pm. Fees for the coming year is senior players €51, underage €36 and U-10’s and non playing adults €26.

Club membership is now due for 2012 and can be paid in the clubhouse on Friday 27th from 7-8pm. Adult membership is €30 and €10 for youth. There is also €100 membership which includes membership and entry into the weekly lotto.

The Late P. J. Mc Dyre
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital, on Saturday 16th April 2011 of P. J. Mc Dyre, Derries, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home on Sunday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday 13th. Fr. Pat Prendergast, Glenties assisted by Fr. Eamonn Mc Laughlin, Lettermacaward concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was also by a family member. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. P. J. is survived by his twin brother, Hugo, Main Street, his other brother, Eddie, Derries, with whom he lived and his sister Kitty Mooney, Doohill, Ardara, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Three brothers, Tommy, Barney and Dan predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Fiona Carroll, The Rock, Glenties on the death of her brother, Ian Carroll, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary which took place last week.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Paddy O’Donnell, Mill Road and Seamie O’Donnell, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties on the death of their brother, Vincent; which took place last week in England; also to his sister Mary Sharpe, Clooney and all his other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife and family of Owen Ward (Dubh), Mully, Glenties, who died as a result of an accident on Saturday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Margaret Quinn and family, Mill Road, Glenties, on the death of Margaret’s sister, Jennie Shovlin, which took place recently in England.

The Late John Sweeney
The death took place in Killybegs Hospital, on Friday 22nd April 2011 (Good Friday) of John (the Twin) Sweeney, Main St. Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home on Saturday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings and Prayers of the Faithful. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. John, who would have been 89 in June, is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces / nephews, great grandnieces / nephews, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His twin brother, Jimmy died on March 20th last year. Three other brothers, Tom, Danny and Vincent, two sisters, Eileen and Chris and nephews James and Martin also predeceased him. John and Jimmy were well known figures in the town. They lived all their lives together in Glenties. When he was young John worked in Mc Devitt’s factory. In later years when the weather was favourable the twins sat outside their home and had a word for everyone. They had a great interest in football, especially in our own local and county teams. They could also name counties and players who won All Ireland finals from as far back as the 40s and 50s. Since Jimmy died John stopped sitting outside.

Ceilí / Sets and Two Hand Dancing will take place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties in aid of Inis Aoibhinn – Cancer Care West on Sunday 8th May 2011. Dancing is from 4 – 7 p.m. Music is by Céilí Time. ‘Fear an tí’ – Clement Gallagher. Admission is € 10 and supper will be served. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Cash for Clobber
Cash for Clobber has been a fantastic fundraiser for Scoil Mhuire over the past few years. It has helped us to upgrade ICT in our classrooms. We are always in need of funding, especially now with the reduction in funds in the last budget. Our next collection is on the 5th May, the Thursday after the Easter Holidays. You may leave your bags at the school from Tuesday 3rd May. We need well-filled refuse bags containing old clothes, paired shoes, bed-linen or curtains. The school gets € 4 per bag. This is a good opportunity to do your Spring clear-out.

Cake / Book / DVD Sale
Scoil Mhuire is holding a Cake / Book / DVD sale after 7.30 Mass in the Community Centre on Saturday 14th May in aid of school funds. Donations of home baked bread / cakes/ buns would be greatly appreciated; also good quality books and DVDs would be very welcome. Your support would be much appreciated.

Congress Bell
As part of the preparations for the 50th International Eucharist Congress, which takes in Dublin from the 10th to the 17th June 2012 a Congress Bell representing the call to prayer will travel around each parish and diocese in Ireland. It comes to Glenties on Thursday morning 5th May at 8.45 a.m. The procession of the Bell will begin at Ard Patrick, up Main Street and into the Church, where there will be Benediction and Prayer at 9.30 a.m. followed by a Votive Mass of the Eucharist at 10 a.m. Anyone who can is asked to come and join in the procession.

Meeting
A meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th May in the Glenties Day Centre to prepare for the arrival of the Bell the following day. Volunteers and helpers are needed and all are welcome to attend.

“This is Me” Ceremony: The First Holy Communion Children of Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will take part in the “This is Me” Ceremony next Sunday 24th April at 11 a.m. Mass.

“Enrolment Sunday”: The First Holy Communion Children of Edeninfagh N.S. will take part in the “Enrolment Sunday” Ceremony at 9.30 Mass on Sunday 1st May.

Eucharistic Bell
The 50th International Congress will take place from the 10th June to the 17th June 2012 in Dublin. As part of the preparations for this historic event every Parish / Diocese is asked to prepare for this huge International Church Event. A Eucharistic Bell, representing ‘the call to prayer’, will travel around each Parish and Diocese in Ireland. On Thursday morning 5th May it comes to Glenties from Dungloe Parish. The Congress Bell will arrive in Ard Patrick, where a procession will carry it along the Main Street and into the Church. Benediction followed by a Votive Mass of the Holy Eucharistic, will take place. Volunteers from the parish are needed – already the young people from the local schools and groups will participate – but we need more help. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Fr. The Late Sean Boyle
The death took place at his home on Tuesday 1st March 2011 of Sean Boyle, Ard Patrick, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Gerard Cunningham (cousin of Sean’s) concelebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Sean is survived by his wife, Una, sons, John and Cartha, daughters, Michelle and Elaine, grandchildren, brothers, Cara, Benny and Eamonn, sisters, Annette and Nora, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. He was predeceased by his brother Josie on the Saturday previous to his own death February 26th. Another brother, Donal and sister Celine also predeceased him.

Enrolment Day at Scoil Mhuire, Glenties for school year 2011-2012 will take place on Thursday 31st March between1:15- 3:00 pm. All incoming pupils are welcome to visit at this time, to see their new classroom for next year and perhaps meet a friend or two. The death took place at his home on Thursday 17th February 2011 of Pat Mc Hugh, Straoughter, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday afternoon. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 1.00 p.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was also by family members. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Pat is survived by his wife, Georgina, sons, John and Joseph, mother, Mary, brothers, John and James, sisters, Margaret, Carmel, Rosemary, Mena and Bridie, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Collection
The Church Gate Collection taken up recently for The Alzheimer Society amounted to € 833.00. Thank you to all those who donated so generously.

X-Factor
DVDs are now on sale in Mc Glinchey’s Mace following the recent successful X-Factor night in Paddy’s Bar. Proceeds go to the Donegal Hospice with a donation going to the local Mountain Rescue Service and Playgroup. Price is € 12.

Dance Classes
Classes in Jiving, Fox Trot, Quick Step and Waltz have started in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties, on Monday nights from 8.00 p.m. – 10.00 p.m. Teacher: Seamus Melvin, Mayo.

Naomh Conaill Notes 15th February 2011

Congratulations to John O’Malley (captain), Seamus Ellis, Jason Campbell and Mark Gallagher who part of the Donegal Vocational Schools team that beat Monaghan in the Ulster Final last Wednesday night in Kildress. They now play Meath in the All Ireland semi final this Saturday in Ballyconnell at 2pm.

Well done to the Glenties Comprehensive U14 team who defeated Inver College, Carrickmacross last Thursday in the Ulster Schools quarter final. They now play St Ciarans, Ballygawley in the semi final this Friday in Castlederg at 11.30am or 12 noon. Anyone travelling to the game should however confirm details before hand.

The club held a very sucessful Annual Presentation Dinner Dance last Saturday night in the Highlands Hotel. Special Guests on the night were Aoife Mc Donald, Cathal Corey, Tony Scuillion and Sean Conoughton Co Board Youth Officer. Medals were presented on the night to our victorious Senior and U21 championship winning teams and our senior ladies team winners of the Junior Gaeltacht. Award winners on the night were Senior Player of the Year went to Anthony Thompson, Most Improved Player Martin Regan, Reserve Player of the Year Hughie Gallagher, Third Team Player of the Year Philip Gallagher and Hugh Breslin. Ladies Player of the Year winner was Emily Thompson and Most Improved Ladies Player was Laoise Ward. Presentataions were also made to John O’Malley, Seamus Ellis, Jason Campbell and Mark Gallagher who were members of the Donegal Vocational Schools team that won the Ulster Final last week and presentations were also made to Leo Mc Loone, Dermot Molloy, Ciaran Boyle and Seamus Corcoran who were part of the Donegal U21 team that won the Ulster championship.

There will be a first aid course in the clubhouse this Friday from 6pm to 10pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9.30pm to 4.30pm. The cost of the course is 75 Euro and there is a limited places left anyone interested can contact Roseleen Doherty.

The AGM will be on Sunday 27th Feb in the clubhouse at 6pm.

Naomh Conaill Notes 8th February 2011

The Anual Presentation Dinner Dance is on this Saturday 12th February in The Highlands Hotel and tickets are 35 Euro. Anyone with tickets ordered can pick them up this Thursday night between 7pm and 9pm in the clubhouse.

The AGM will be on Sunday 27th Feb in the clubhouse at 6pm. Club members can pick up nominations forms in McGlincheys or The Cope in Fintown and must be returned to the club secretary no later than 5pm this Fri 11th Feb.

The Ladies AGM was held last Sunday in the clubhouse and the following were elected on the night Chairperson Roseleen Doherty, Secretary Fiona Quinn, Treasurer Fiona Gallagher, Registra Shauna Molloy, U12 manager Shauna Molloy, U14 manager Christopher Molloy, U16 manager not filled, Minor manager Sean Boyce, Senior manager Sean Boyce.

There will be a presentation night for our Under 8s and Under 10s in the community centre this Friday at 7pm.
