Glenties Notes 29th August 2013

Barbeque at Leo’s:
A BBQ, in aid of the Coronary Unit, Letterkenny Hospital, will take place at Leo’s Bar, Glenties on Sunday 8th September. Music is by ‘Derailed’. There will be lots of great prizes; Sure to be a great day. Please support this worthy cause as LetterkennyHospital needs support now more than ever due to the flooding.

Mr. & Mrs.:
As part of Eileen Gallagher’s Lord Mayor Campaign a Mr.& Mrs. Competition takes place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Saturday 7th September. A great night’s fun is in store when 8 local couples battle it out to take the honour of the perfect Mr.& Mrs. Tickets are just € 10 each and are available from the Highlands Hotel, the Co-op, Eileen herself or any of the participating couples.

Wedding Bells:
Congratulations and Best Wishes to Michelle Flannery, daughter of Margaret and Tommy Flannery, Mullanmore, Glenties and Martin Boylan from Falcarragh, who were married in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties on Saturday 24th August 2013. The reception was held in the Blue Haven, Kilcar.

Collection:
The Donegal Pro Life Collection which was taken up on 14th and 15th August amounted to € 340. Thank you for your generous donations.

Biddy Devine Memorial Weekend:
The organisers of The Biddy Devine Memorial Weekend, which took place on 12th 13th and 14th July, wish to thank everyone who took part in the events and those who gave Donations and Sponsorship. The amount collected was € 5,600.00 and this has been given to The Kidney Dialysis Unit, LetterkennyHospital.

Note from Letterkenny General Hospital:
The Emergency Department at Letterkenny Hospital has reopened. Temporary arrangements for outpatient clinics and planned surgery continue to be in place. Patients will be written to directly. For any emergency requiring an ambulance please dial 112 or 999 as normal. Non emergency patients should continue to contact their GP in the first instance.

Bingo
Bingo takes place in the Community Centre, Glenties every Tuesday night at 9.00 p.m. Doors open at 8.00 p.m. Every Line is € 50, every House is € 100 and the Jackpot is € 400. The Committee thanks everyone for their continued support. We now have a new Lift installed at a cost of € 35,000 for easier access to upstairs. To book the Community Centre ring 0872679321. Care of the Aged
The Care of the Aged Collection at Glenties amounted to € 1,025 and in Edeninfagh amounted to € 60. Sincere thanks to everyone who gave a donation. The Committee also wish to thank all those who donated spot prizes and cash donations for the Parish Social and everyone who assisted in any way to make the event such a success. Our special thanks to the Priests, to the Highlands Hotel and Frank Mc Ghee for making the function so enjoyable.

Big Country Night
A Big Country Night in aid of the Renal Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny General Hospital will take place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Saturday 19th November. Music is by ‘Off the Cuff’. Admission is € 10. Tickets are on sale locally or you can pay at the door.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Nancy Mc Grath, Meenahalla, Glenties, who died in The Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny last Sunday 30th October.

Naomh Conaill U-13s
History was made in the Naomh Conaill club last Saturday when the club won its first ever U-13 championship at Division 1 (A Grade). This was achieved by a 3-7 to 3-5 victory over St. Eunan’s Letterkenny at Pairc Taobhoige, Glenfin after a very exciting and tense final with the result in doubt right up till the end. Great credit for this must go to this very dedicated group of young players and their parents. The team is managed and coached by Seosamh Mac Ceallabhuí, who has to be highly commended for his Trojan and committed work with the youth of N. Conaill. Well done to all involved with the team.

Gallen / Boyle Wedding
Michelle Boyle and Paul Gallen were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday 14th October 2011. Michelle is a daughter of Phil and Bridie Boyle, Stranaglough, Glenties and Paul is a son of Danny and Susan Gallen, Aghyaran, Co. Tyrone. Fr. Shane Gallagher, Glenties assisted by Fr. John Gilmore, Aghyaran officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Laura Boyle and Caroline Kee, niece, Lauren Kee and sister-in-law, Belinda Boyle attended her. John Moss, friend of the groom was bestman. Donal Gallen, brother, Terence Gallen and Jason Byrne, friends of the groom were groomsmen. Mathew Madden, nephew of the groom and Ciaran Boyle nephew of the bride were pageboys. Readings were by Bridget Molloy, cousin of the bride and Fiona Gallagher, sister of the groom. Louise and Michael Madden, Ciara and Mairead Mc Devitt read Prayers of the Faithful. Bridie Boyle, mother of the bride and Susan Gallen, mother of the groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Bridget Molloy and John F. O’ Donnell. The reception was held in Harvey’s Point, and the honeymoon is being spent cruising.

Table Top Sale
There will be a Table Top Sale in the Glenties Community Centre, next Saturday 5th November from 12 until 4 p.m. Bargains for everyone, so come along and you may pick up one.

Graduation
Congratulations to Irene Boyle, who recently graduated from N.U.I.G. with Honours Degrees in Sociological and Political Studies and Psychological Studies. Irene is a daughter of Pat and Barbara Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties.

Friends of Letterkenny Hospital
The Friends of Letterkenny Hospital wish to thank everyone who contributed to their Annual Harvest Fair Day Collection. The amount raised was € 776.90.

Jiving Lessons
Jiving lessons started in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Monday 26th September at 9.00 p.m. Seamus Melvin is the dancing teacher. Everyone is welcome.

Glenties Community Centre
Bingo takes place every Tuesday night in the Community Centre, Glenties at 9 p.m. Every Line is € 50, every House is € 100 and the Jackpot is € 400. In house Draws also take place. Snooker every evening except Tuesday, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Qualification – Suitably qualified to Major award in Fetac Level 5 in Childcare, to include Special Needs (or equivalent) is essential. Preference will be given to those who possess Level 6 in Supervision in Childcare and Special Needs (or equivalent), Experience of working in a formal Childcare setting and an ability to be available to work flexible hours. Glenties Variety Concert
A Variety Concert in aid of Glenties Church of Ireland will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Friday 12th November, starting at 8 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served after the concert, followed by dancing to George Bustard, so come along, support this worthy cause and have a good night out for only  € 10.

Johnny Boyle Art Classes have begun on Tuesday evenings in the Highlands Hotel at 8. 00 p.m.

The Raphoe Diocesan Society
The Annual Diocesan Mass for the Deceased Members of The Raphoe Diocesan Society will be celebrated by Bishop Philip Boyce in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday 16th November at 7.30 p.m.

Flu Vaccine
The Flu Vaccine is now available at the Glenties Health Centre.  It is recommended to all those aged over 65 years, those under 65 years with chronic health conditions, and those who are pregnant.  If you would like to avail of this service please contact the Health Centre, Glenties at 9551330 to make an appointment.

Cash for Clobber
Scoil Mhuire N.S. Glenties is having a ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection on Thursday 21st October.  Filled bags (bin liner size) can be brought to the school until school closes on the day.  This is a good way to get rid of unwanted clothing, paired shoes, curtains, linens, old handbags and belts and is in keeping with the ‘Green Schools Initiative’.  The school will receive € 4 for each well filled bag, which will go towards school funds.  Your contributions are greatly appreciated.  For further information please contact the school at 074 9551521.

The Annual Halloween Ball in aid of the Christmas Lights will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 24th October.  Music is by Guilty of Rhythm.  Doors will open at 10 p.m.  Face Painting in the Hotel from 7 p.m.  There will be cash prizes for the best individual and group costumes.

Carnival Parade
The Carnival Parade will start from the Community Centre at 9 p.m.

Children’s Fancy Dress Parade & Family Fun Evening
On Saturday 23rd October there will be a family fun evening, with a Fancy Dress parade for the children from the Community Centre and afterwards to the Hotel ballroom for some Halloween treats.  There will be Face Painting in the hotel before the parade.

Swimming Lessons in Ballyshannon
West Coast Cormorants are running an eight week session in Ballyshannon Leisure Centre, starting on Tuesday 2nd November.  This session offers swimming lessons for beginners, improvers and higher levels.  This is a valuable opportunity for children to work for an Irish Water Safety Swim Award.  Application forms will be available in the usual outlets in Glenties and Ardara and should be returned by Wednesday 20th October, no later than Friday 22nd October.  Costs will be kept to a minimum this year, at € 85 per child, including travel, pool and certificate.  Parents please note: this is a voluntary, community-run club and we need each of you to supervise the bus on one occasion during the term.  For further details, please contact 086 0782699.

Self Help Africa Church Gate Collection will be taken up before the Masses next weekend.

Parenting Course
A Positive Parenting Course will be held in St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh, beginning on Wednesday 20th October.  The course will be run over a six week period, every Wednesday for two hours (excluding Wednesday 27th October- Mid Term Break) between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.  There will be a break for tea / coffee during each two hour session.  This course, which is delivered by the H.S. E. is open to all parents of Primary School Children and is free of charge.  Subjects covered are Communication, Self-Esteem, Resilience and Behavioural Issues.  Please contact the school at 9551591.

Friends of Letterkenny Hospital

Novena of Masses for the Dead
Every Mass from Tuesday 2nd November until Wednesday 10th November in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties and The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh will be a Mass for the Dead.  Special envelopes will be available at the door of the Church next weekend.

Coffee Morning
Edeninfagh N.S. will hold a Coffee Morning in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital tomorrow, Friday 22nd October, beginning at 10.30 a.m.  Donations will be accepted at the school on the day.  Everyone is welcome.

Fintown parish Bazaar
The Annual Bazaar will take place in Ballinamore School next Sunday 24th October at 2.30 p.m.  There will be some great prizes.  Your support would be much appreciated.
