Glenties Notes 18th April 2013

Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 9th April were – €25 winners – Joan Rodgers, Annmarie Spillane, Mary Gallagher and Bridie Doherty; €50 winners – Sally McHugh, Clare Keeney, Mary McGeehan, Sinead Burke, Imelda Gallagher, Moya Gallagher, Helen Mc Dyre and Renee Mulhern; €100 winners – Margo Gallagher, Mary Gough, Mary Gallagher, Annie Cannon and Bernie McDevitt; €150 winner – Gracie O’Hara; €350 winner – Jimmy Quinn.

“Strictly Come Dancing”:
St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties, presents “Strictly Come Dancing” on Friday19th April. Show commences at 8 p.m. sharp. Doors open at 7 p.m Admission: Adults € 10; Students and OAPs € 7; Un – Reserved seating.

Charity Table Quiz:
A Table Quiz will take place in Melly’s Bar, Glenties, on Saturday 20th April at 9 p.m. Tír Chonaill Gap Cycling Club has 5 members participating in “Race the Rás” this year, cycling 1,200 kilometers in 8 days. This is in aid of National Breast Cancer Research Institute. Your support is welcome at their quiz night.

Glenties Community Centre:
Bingo every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. Every Line € 50, every House €100. Jackpot, if not won, will be € 6,100 on Tuesday 23rdApril. If not won € 300 will be paid out. In-house draws.

Snooker:
Snooker Room opened from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. daily except Tuesday. It closes at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. On Saturday and Sunday – Snooker Room opened from 12.noon to 10 p.m.

Glenties Notes 14th September 2012

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Peggy Molloy, Mully, Glenties and her family on the death of Peggy’s brother, Joe Mc Cready, Donegal Town, which took place last week.

Adult Education Courses in St. Columba’s Comprehensive School:
All courses run every Tuesday night from 7.30 – 9. 30 p.m. Courses on offer are – Intermediate Computers, ECDL START Progression Module1, Conversational French, Conversational Italian, Zumba, Circuits for Ladies, Learn how to use a digital Camera, Making DVDs from your Home Clips& Photos, Beginners Keyboard, Beginners Guitar, Simple and Delicious French Cooking, Patchwork, Introduction to Health and Safety in the Workplace. Enrolment will take place on Monday 17th September from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. or during office hours 9.30 a.m. to1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday – Friday. All fees must be paid in the school office on or before enrolment night. Concessionary fee for unwaged participants – one class per term. This concession is not available to unemployed people whose spouse is earning a salary or wage. Please note that satisfactory evidence of unemployment must be produced i.e. evidence of receipt of social welfare, pension book, etc. All participants must be at least 18 years old. Beginners Computers, Computers and Online, Form Filling for Farmers, Introduction to Internet and email, Internet and Social Networking Awareness, Project Maths to Junior Cert, Euro-watchers Money Management, Driving Theory Test, Conversational Irish, Junior Cert History, and Home Baking on a Budget.

Tír Chonaill Gap Cycling Club would like to say a big thank you to everyone that supported our annual harvest fair cycle and also a thank you to all the marshals and members who helped out with the food etc. It was a great day all round and everybody’s support and help was much appreciated.

St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, Class of ’75 Reunion

The Comprehensive Class of 75 reunion is now confirmed for Friday 3rd August 2012.

It would be much appreciated that if anyone has photographs from this era, they would forward them by email to glentiescomp@gmail.com or by post to Leonard Breslin, 6 Dolphin Avenue, South Circular Road, Dublin 8. If posted, photographs will be retained and returned safely to senders.

In order to confirm your attendance at the reunion, which will include a 4-course dinner in the Highlands Hotel, the cost of which is €35, payment should be made to a dedicated bank account which has been set up for this purpose. When making payment, please ensure that the bank records your name so that we can track and maintain accurate records of all payments.

Opening of St. Columba’s Sports Hall and Fitness Suite

The new sports hall and fitness suite in the school will open to the public from next Monday, the 27th September.
It will be open from Monday – Friday, from 18:00 – 22:00.

The hall is available to rent and equipment is available for the following:

  • Indoor Soccer
  • Gaelic
  • tag rugby
  • badminton
  • uni-hoc
  • indoor athletics
  • basketball

The fitness suite upstairs (consisting of treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, steppers, cross trainers and numerous resistance machines) is also available to use, at a cost of €5. Students from the school may use the gym at a cost of €3 per session.

The following classes are currently taking registration:

  • Badminton (Ladies and Men, Beginners and Advanced) – Monday 20:00 – 21:00
  • Junior Girls Basketball – Tuesday 18:00 – 19:00
  • Ladies Fun Basketball – Tuesday 20:00 – 21:00
  • Mens Circuits – Wednesday 21:00 – 22:00
  • Ladies Keep-Fit Class – Thursdays from 20:00 – 21:00
  • Junior Boys Basketball – Friday 18:00 – 19:00
  • Mens Basketball – Friday 21:00 – 22:00
