Glenties Notes 29th October 2014

Thanks:
The Connaghan Family would like to thank everyone who came to Frank’s month’s mind mass on Friday 10th October. Thank you to all who called to the community centre afterwards, brought home baking, or who gave donations. A special thank you to the ladies and gentlemen who looked after everyone on the night. Novena of Masses for the Dead:
Every Mass from Sunday 2nd November until Monday 10th November, in The Church of the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, and in St.Connell’s Church, Glenties, will be offered for those who are named in the Dead Lists. Special envelopes, containing Dead Lists, are available at the door of the Church. The completed lists should be returned by Sunday 2nd November, to be placed on the Altar for the Masses. Please do not leave envelopes with donations for Masses in or around the church. .The envelopes will be kept in a secure place between Masses.

Confession Times in Glenties:
Friday 31st October – Confession immediately after 7.30 p.m. Mass; Saturday 1st November – Confession after11.00 a.m. Mass & after 7.30 p.m. Mass Please note – there will be NO Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament this week.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Bella Mc Gill and family, Main Street, Glenties, on the death on Wednesday 15th October 2014 of Bella’s sister, Peggy Rooney, College Farm Road, Letterkenny; (formerly O’Donnell, Mullinamina, Glenties), also to Peggy’s family and all other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended and to Eamonn Boyle, Meenalargan, Glenties on the death of his sister, Mamie Kennedy, Ard Conal, Ardara, which took place on Thursday 16th October 2014; also to Mamie’s family and all other relatives and friends.

Glenties Community Action Group
Glenties Gets Ready for Halloween: Following on from the successful Harvest Fair Festival we are now busily preparing for the annual Halloween celebrations on the October Bank Holiday Weekend. The weekend will begin at 4 p.m. for kids, on Friday 24th with Ghost Walks along the spooky roads of Altar in Glenties, and at 7 p.m. for adults. On Saturday 25th the Kids Parade & Halloween Disco takes place in the Community Centre at 4 p.m.; followed at 9 p.m. by the return of the Fireworks Display, so enjoyed last year, with viewing from the Comp. Sports Field, buckets will be available for donations at this event. Then on Sunday 26th the now famous Glenties Halloween Parade and Ball takes centre stage, with the Main Street being overtaken by ghouls and goblins, and the Highlands Hotel being the venue for all the monsters to gather for the Ball. Proceedings begin at 10 p.m.; and a prize fund of € 2,000 is on offer for the best dressed participants and scariest parade floats, so get designing and making now, it’s just a week away and remember – Glenties is the best, and only place, to celebrate your Halloween. A Table Quiz in aid of St. Connell’s Museum will take place in Phelan’s Bar on Friday 24th October at 10 p.m.

Next Sunday -19th October is Mission Sunday – organised each year by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Our spiritual and material offerings are crucial for the continued work of missionaries throughout the world. There will be a 2nd Envelope Collection for Mission Sunday. The total raised in the Collection will be sent in its entirety to support mission projects worldwide.

Naomh Conaill GAA Club Notes 13th October 2014

There was no winner of this week’s Gaa lotto, numbers out were 1-4-29-30, the 2x €50 went to J Mc Laughlin, Malin Gaa and Francie Mc Devitt, Fintown. Next week’s jackpot is €2,800.

Congratulations to our Senior and reserve teams on their victory over St Eunans on Sunday last in Glenties. Both teams who ended top of their groups to reach the quarter final with mouth-watering ties, Seniors who were drawn against neighbouring town Ardara and to be played in Donegal town on sat 18th at 4pm and the reserves play Dungloe in Ballybofey on sun 19th at 5.30pm. Good luck to both teams and management involved.

Naomh Conaill are hosting a “Come dine with me” night in November so if anyone is interested in hosting a table in your own house with a great nights fun in the Highlands Hotel afterwards to contact any of the exective member for further details.

Glenties Notes 8th October 2014

Glenties Community Action Group::
“We wish to sincerely thank everyone who played a part in our recent successful Harvest Fair Festival. To all our sponsors, local businesses, stall holders, craftspeople and farmers, who helped create such a great atmosphere, a heartfelt thank you also to the local Gardaí, and County Council Personnel, for the road closures and street cleaning. A special thank you to all those who entered floats in the parade an helped with the Wild West Theme, and to all our musicians and entertainers thank you also. Finally to all the people of Glenties and beyond who turned out in such number and created such a buzz, thank you for your support and appreciation. We now turn our attention to our Halloween Weekend on the October Bank Holiday weekend, and hope for similar success and crowds as we saw at the Harvest Fair. Thank you to everyone again.”

The Friends of Letterkenny General Hospital will hold their Annual Church Gate Collection on next weekend Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October.

Glenties Notes 1st October 2014

The Late Hugh Boyle:
The death took place recently in Killybegs Hospital of Hugh Boyle, Caosan, Kilraine, Glenties. Hugh is survived by one brother, Michael and one sister, Philomena Coughlan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brother Patrick and two sisters, Bridget Boyle and Sarah O’ Neill predeceased him.

The Late Frank Connaghan:
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 7th September 2014 of Frank Connaghan, Main Street (formerly Mill Road), Glenties. Frank is survived by his wife, Anne, son Manus, daughters, Tara and Francine sisters, Anne and Madge, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His daughter, Nadine predeceased him in 1988.

Golden Wedding:
Congratulations to Jimmy and Bernadette Mc Kelvey, Beaghmore, Fintown, who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last weekend.

Silver Wedding:
Congratulations to Laurence and Michelle Molloy, Narin Road, Glenties, who celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary recently. Best wishes to both couples for many more happy years together.

St Riaghan’s NS, Drimnacrosh are running an Occupational First Aid refresher course in the school on Wednesday 8th & Wednesday 15th October- (7 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening). Naomh Conaill GAA Club Notes 31st October 2013

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 11, 14, 15 and 18. Two prizes of €50 went to Kathleen Quinn 20 Ard Mc Gill and Margaret Flannery Ardun. Next weeks jackpot is €4,500.

Well done to the U16 team who overcame Aodh Ruadh in the play-off in Ardara on Friday night. Aodh Ruadh 3-05 2-12 Naomh Conaill. They now play the winners of Dungloe/Naomh Mhuire in Ardara on Friday night at 8.15pm.

Well done to the U21 who are through to the final after they were victorious over Mac Cumhaills. Naomh Conaill 2-14 1-08 Mac Cumhaills. They now await the winners of Kilcar v Four Masters. This is the U21’s playing in our 8th consecutive final.

Congratulations to Paddy Campbell who was ratified as Naomh Conaill senior manager for a second year.

The Clubs Strictly Come Jiving will take place on Saturday 23rd November in the Highlands Hotel. Tickets are €15 and are for sale in The Highlands Hotel, The Inniskeel Co-0p, Maxwells Ballinamore or from any of the dancers taking part.

The U16’s were beaten in the semi final 2nd leg of the championship last Sunday. Aodh Ruadh 2-7 1-2 Naomh Conaill. This now goes to a third game as Naomh Conaill won the 1st leg. This game is due to be played this weekend.

Commiserations to the reserve team who were beaten by Gweedore in the county final. Naomh Conaill 0-6 2-6 Gweedore.
Good luck to the U21 team who take on MacCumhaills in the county semi final this Saturday in Glenfin at 2pm.

Well done to the U14 girls and their managers who won the county final last Saturday after they overcame Gweedore .

Good luck to the Naomh Conaill minor ladies who take on St Eunans in the county semi final this Saturday. Venue and time TBC.

Shop Local:
Glenties Community Action Group aim to promote what is best about Glenties, and on Sunday 3rd November they will begin a “Shop Local” Campaign by inviting all local businesses to showcase their products and bargains in the Highlands Hotel between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity for the community to see what Glenties has to offer in shopping and entertainment, and there will be loads of offers available on the day. So please support your community and local businesses and shop local.

Church Gate Collections:
The Church Gate Collection for The Dyslexia Association taken up in Edeninfagh on 25th August amounted to € 95.00. A Big Thank You to all who gave generously.

The Church Gate Collection taken up in Glenties for People with Intellectual Disabilities raised € 651.45. Thank you for your support.

Cash for Clobber:
Scoil Mhuire is having another ‘Cash for Clobber’ collection on Tuesday 22nd October. We accept bags of men’s, women’s & children’s clothing, paired shoes, handbags, belts, bed linen (no duvets or pillows) curtains etc. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in the past and we look forward to another successful collection on the 22nd. Feel free to drop your bag(s) into the school anytime prior to the collection.

Naomh Conaill Club Notes 17th October 2013

All roads lead to Ballybofey this Sunday for what is a really big day for the club. Leo’s reserve team take on Gweedore in the championship reserve county final replay at 1.45pm. Good luck to Leo, his mentors and the team. This is followed by the senior final which Naomh Conaill clubman Ian Molloy is refereeing accompanied by his umpires Anthony Molloy, Brian Carr, Michael Regan(Naomh Conaill) and Lee Jordan(Four Masters). Good luck lads.

Sunday was a great day for the club winning three out of three matches. First up were the U16’s who had a one point win over Aodh Ruadh. Naomh Conaill 2-07 3-03 Aodh Ruadh. The return leg will be played this Sunday in Ballyshannon at 12noon. This was followed by the reserves who had a comprehensive victory over Ardara. Naomh Conaill 0-16 1-03 Ardara. The seniors secured there place in Division One for next year when they put in a brilliant second half display to come out comprehensive winners over Ardara. Naomh Conaill 4-14 2-08 Ardara. This was the seniors last game of the year.

Hard luck to the U13’s who were beaten by St Nauls after extra time in the semi final on Monday night. St Nauls 4-12 4-08 Naomh Conaill.

James Gallagher is running a Last Man or Woman standing competition as part of his Lord Mayor campaign. The winner will receive a very impressive 40″ Samsung smart HD TV.
